Significance of Ruddock fights for Tyson?

yes those 2 fights took the sting out off razor ruddock ,donovan wasnt great but he had a good chin and had remarkable recovering powers when hurt , yes lennox lewis fought a shot fighter

Ruddock's skills must have been is a seriously diminished state too.

Compare the way Ruddock fought Tyson in 1991 against how he boxed Weaver in 1986.

Ruddock went into skills decline as soon as he got a high rating. Fell in love with his own power.

 

It was a very good set of wins over a guy in his prime, who at the time was seen as the dangerman of the division.

Also, Tyson had been accused of ducking Ruddock for two years. So it answered some questions.

If Tyson hadn't fought Ruddock and opted for Foreman instead, the same people would be sitting here talking about how Tyson chose an old man over a young prime hungry fighter.

 

They showed he was not what he was in his absolute prime, but that he had enough left to contend for the title again.

It's a big shame Tyson/Holyfield didn't happen in late '91.

He started fighting like a stalking slugger after the Weaver fight. I guess he believed he could stop anyone with that left hook/uppercut

He would have been well served to box more against Tyson.

 

Neglected skills, diminished skills.

I agree, he should have boxed more against Tyson. Jabbed. And tried throwing a right uppercut occasionally, instead of just the same old predictable left.
