IMHO, C ooney's heart was much more tested against superior opposition than Povetkin's.
Plus, although C ooney likes the drink, he was not a steroid cheat. :smoke

Larry Holmes said he was hurt by ****ey and that he was one of the hardest punchers he ever fought. the remark was years ago but he said it. I think Pov would be in trouble.

C ooney was a massive puncher. His jab sucked. However Holmes defeated him by getting on his bicycle and boxing taking him into late rounds where C ooney was inexperienced. Povektin does not have that style he is a stationary come forward fighter. Prime C ooney was very good he nearly murdered Norton (poor job by the ref) and nearly cut Lyle in half with one of the most brutal body shots ever.
I'm not picking a winner in this one but it would be a very entertaining fight

    Povetkin. KO

Gerry would do f-all in the modern era with proper PED testing and more global competition.

He had a glass jaw too.

All three were old and washed up, you wouldn't give Povetkin or Wlad credit for those wins.

You are only hyping ****ey because he lost Easton Assassin.

No, the lack of proper testing is what got him in so much trouble against Holmes.

Blowing out has beens didn't properly prepare him for a real title fight.

****ey had a weak jab. Left hook to the body was his best punch.

****ey had bad stamina lol. You got to be kidding with that one.

****ey had so much heart he threw a multiple years long temper tantrum after losing that fight. got his ass kicked in bars. he threw his career away pouting over losing to the world champ. sounds like loads of heart to me.

Gerry was an enigma. Had so much potential that wasn't developed. The guy was virtually untested and went 13 rounds with Holmes so he can't be as bad as some are saying. Can you see Wilder going 13 rounds with Holmes? I can't.

Oh god.... Duhaupas gave Wilder a pizza face and was tattooing him with the jab, imagine what Holmes would do...

    This.

Gerry has become a bit of a joke in recent years since his career was pretty much a disaster after Holmes took care of him. But he was a good fighter with fair skills, reasonably tough, and pre-Holmes a confident destroyer with a left hook from hell.

Could he handle Povetkin? I don't know. He puts Wilder in a bodybag though. :yep

Even the shot to bits decrepit alcoholic version buzzed Foreman..... He was a good talent. Ruined by a combination of poor management and his own demons.

Gerry with a better trainer and managers who actually knew what they were doing would have had a better career. Who in the hell puts a guy who is inexperienced and coming off a 13 month layoff in a fight in Las Vegas in 100 degree heat with Larry Holmes? :rofl:patsch

It was a recipe for disaster from the start and Gerry managed to hang around until the championship rounds.
