It's everything that's wrong with boxing but ask yourself honestly, would you fight Rigo for **** money and probably lose when you could make loads more fighting a 'bigger name' where you'd prob win? It's sad that Rigo is in the 'who needs him' club but what can you do?
I'm certain that wouldn't be the case with Frampton though. He'd make more money fighting LSC or Selby no? I'd like to see him in with Rigo myself.
Oh yeah, absolutely but I don't think it'd low enough to warrant them saying they wouldn't get 'enough' money for it. Think Donaire got like $1.5M or something. Either way, I see Rigo getting shafted again. His style doesn't help I guess but it's pretty annoying
Barry was making excuses post-fight as to why they won't fight Rigo. Utterly pathetic. He's a complete paper champion.
Well the chickens have well and truly came home to roost now with boxing, regarding the alphabet organisations. Only one champ means ducking is much harder and with only 10 legitimate contenders the best generally have to fight the best, either to keep their titles or get a shot. There's too many imposters calling themselves a world champion in the modern era when in a lot of cases they're not even in the best 10 fighters in their weight class.
I honestly would fight him. Even if/when Frampton were to be beat by Rigo, he can't lose! No one is expecting him to win and when it's all said and done and it comes time to hang up the gloves he can look himself in the mirror and say "I fought the best". Fight Rigo, earn an awful lot of respect for doing so and then move up for the big money fights.
Obvious, but, if he moves up and vacates he no longer has the belts so he can't be ducking for fear of losing the belts. May not get a career high payday but will earn a tidy sum. If he doesn't fight Rigo he will be remembered for it. If he does he will always be able to say he fought the best. If he loses, not the end of the world. It is Rigo and he planned moving up anyway. If he wins, he is a legend. At this stage in his career, think he should take it. Agree with the post above, he can't lose
Completely agree, win or lose to Rigo the big money fights are still there and it's not like he won't be well paid for the fight in any event. Avoiding the fight just shows there is no belief that he can/will beat Rigo. It's not just Frampton, it's Quigg and LSC too.
Frampton wants to fight Rigondeaux. He also wants to fight Santa Cruz. Barry McGuigan doesn't seem keen at all on the Rigo fight, however, which may influence the eventual decision. But even if Frampton fights Santa Cruz next, that doesn't necessarily rule out the Rigondeaux fight at some point in the future.
I agree with you in spirit but an L on his record no matter how good his opponent would see LSC and co. try and shaft Carl on the split. That's the simple reality and why fighters don't take chances. I'm not condoning it, I'm just saying I understand why he'll take that course. Respect from knowledgable fans doesn't pay the bills.
The fight with santa cruz makes sense and will be easy to put together but i can see frampton checking out how rigondeaux looks against jazza ****ens first. Rigo looks like he could be fading, if so and the money it right i can see them taking it. Rigo is class but he is no spring chicken, its a closer fight than people think.
Not saying the money would match that of an LSC fight, but a clash with Rigondeaux in Belfast would be an easy sell. Basically - here is the world's best fighter in the weight division, one of the world's best pound-for-pound, and here is your local hero. It'd be a similar dynamic to Hatton-Tyzsu and I think the Irish would be keen for it.
