Around 7-8 years ago during a sparring session, I got clocked with a left hook that caught me right at the Base of the jaw. It didn't feel much different to any other punch I'd taken before but I couldn't close my jaw for half hour afterwards. I could open and close it fine later that evening but went to docs a couple of days later who said it was likely slightly fractured. After a week, every time I moved my jaw side to side, the right side (where the punch landed) did a sort of click. No pain or anything, but when eating it would click too. All these years later and it still happens from time to time. No as frequently as before, but I sometimes have to do a yawn or open my mouth really wide to release what feels like tension in the right side of my jaw. Anyone else had this or living with this? If so, is there a ln explanation as the doc on my 2nd visit 3-4 years ago said it shouldn't happen after a couple more years.
I would advise you to go to a Orthodontist, I was having problems with my jaw clicking, the orthodontist said it was because of a over bite. I am getting a retainer this Thursday, that will solve the problem.
I agree with going to an orthodontist first; however, it could also be a sign of ligament or tendon instability. If that's the case, it's possible that prolotherapy would resolve your issue.
Cheers guys. I shall definitely seek some professional advice, not just from my GP this time! Just goes to show, it's not the power of the punch that always does the damage - it's where it lands!
I ran into a guy settin a screen, which I didn't see, playing basketball over 10 years ago and similar to your situation, after my jaw healed I still hear/feel popping in it to this day. I had it lock open once, a long time ago. But, it has not happened since. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
hard hit Mother ****er! I had the same experience over a year ago and jaw still makes me click, the difference was in a street fight and a roundhouse kick
