Why is Charlie Flynn getting more hype in Scotland than Josh Taylor?

I noticed this after the games when both won gold and it's still obvious now even though Josh looks the far superior talent.

I put it down to Glaswegian bias.

After the Framps fight last week there was fvck all about Josh's victory in the national papers, but there was a piece about Flynn's nxt fight. WTF is that all about?

It was the same with Craig McEwan. He got fvck all exposure in the national press, even though he was fighting on big cards in America at the time. If he was Glaswegian they would've been creaming all over him big time.

Alex Arthur got a decent bit of exposure in the national rags only because the agenda driven Glasgow press thought he was Celtic fan because he was pictured with a Boston Celtics hat on lol

I still remember the title "Celtic fan Alex Arthur" In one of the Scottish (Glasgow based) national papers lol

I'm not sure tbh, both are good lads but personally I think that Josh will go further and will have the more successful career but saying that I hope Charlie Flynn also reaches the highest level because as a country we need more stars in the boxing ring!

Nonsense, Flynn gets more press as he is more charismatic and the fact was the bubbly postie. Agree Taylor is the better boxer. Remember Alex Arthur at one stage got as much if not more press conferences berate than Scott Harrison for same reason Flynn does now even though he couldn't lace Scott Harrison's gloves. Same down south with Ricky Hatton compared to Joe Calzaghe

It's because Flynn gave an interview at the games which went viral- nothing else. If he hadn't nobody would care. Mainstream media don't know boxing and cant appreciate prospects- they are drawn to colourful personalities who can get internet clicks and sales. Once Josh starts building a higher profile through continuing to win then they will all be jumping on the band wagon.

  5. Moog, Calzaghe is Welsh...hardly a good comparison! That said what you are referring to is absolutely true and definitely the case.

Hopefully the both of them do well, granted I haven't actually seen a great deal of either of them but from what I have seen Taylor looks the stand-out.

I remember seeing Charlie interviewing Sugar Ray Leonard and as previously mentioned, he gave that funny interview after the games - so he's more known in the media.

Taylor is far superior to Flynn, different levels of talent. Josh should go much further in the pro's but nothing is guaranteed.

As characters and popularity Charlie is probably the more affable of the two. Not looking to cause a rift but it could be a Glasgow - Edinburgh culture as well.

    This, nail on the head.

Josh is quietly going about his business down in London as well which could have something to do with it, where as Charlie is based up here and has therefore had access to STV etc.

Hopefully we'll have both fighting up here if the Glasgow show comes off.

Cos Flynn done his wee ned interview and became famous off the back of it whereas Josh Taylor is going about his boxing. JT is far superior and will go a lot further in Boxing.

There is also a small element of Weegie bias compared to East coasters.
