It's hard enough for casuals to get into the sweet science...How on earth are stars supposed to just randomly happen if once the "hungry lions" get that big contract, only fight twice a year?! Promoters aren't doing their jobs, and the sport is hurting because of it. Im sick and tired of seeing guys who get 1 or 2 mediocre wins, then their promoters and themselves believe the hype and have them slated for 1 or 2 s****s, only to fill half of a lower bowl (if that). It's ridiculous!! How can people who regularly would have 0 interest in the sport, be pulled in to a fighters charisma is their promotion teams and themselves dont make themselves known.
Yeah this twice a year BS has to stop for certain fighters. Andre Ward's resume is hilarious. He's getting on 32 now and hasn't many years left...I remember when he was 28 and looking like he could remain something special...and his time is now almost up :rofl
It's really, really bad for your brain to fight as consistently as the old timers did. If you want to see more fights the quality will only go down. Look at how ****ty the nfl has become
It's not that hard to become a big star if you're willing to step up to the plate. PAC fought Barerra, Marquez, and Morales pretty much back to back and became a sensation immediately.
You can either make the divas stars, which is unreliable, or you can make the promotion/television show the star and have stability. When Ray Leonard was the man and he only fought once or twice a year that was enough for many people because he always delivered the goods. Mayweather less so. Leonard also would fight on regular tv so millions of people could see him.
That is why UFC is winning at the gates and the PPV game. The flip side is fighter burn out and short careers. Where is Cain Valasquez? Vs Andre Ward is still fighting.
