So apparently he did fight and win last night but it was after a long delay as the doctor left with Nick and it took time for them to get another one. Thing i'm confused is why they gonna put him on after the main event in the first place? Isn't the usual model to have the main event last? Cos ud rather watch a less interesting fight before the main event as a build up. I reckon most ppl gonna turn over the tv after eubanks done He's missed out on TV exposure now and even in the live crowd only a fraction remained to watch him He seems to be having a lot of misfortune in his career with pullouts, no decent names wanting to fight him and now this
i think his fight was after so that blackwell and eubank was on at a good time for tv. hughie has been unlucky with pullouts, illlness etc but then again he is still only 21 with 19 pro fights under his belt and heading towards the world top 10, he is in no rush
yeh but u can just start coverage earlier. Hugie at 9 give him good exposure, give boxing fans a nice warm up to the main. Eubank then to come in at the time he did. Everyones happy. Even if Nick wasnt put into a coma and Hugie came in straight after I'd think that viewing figures would be much lower as compared to before. Most ppl are gonna change the channel :huh
Channel 5 wouldn't give Mick three hours on a Saturday so the best Hughie could have hoped for was the headline fight on Spike earlier. I thought it was a touch out of line to have Hughie on so late. Odd, odd situation between the promoter/trainers and the TV channel who were openly sniping at each other in the build up and the aftermath. I hope Cyclone get more time/promotion on Channel 5 but it's far from inevitable.
Agree with you there if he headlined the Spike card would have been a good move. I feel as if he's getting messed about.
yeah always a floating bout or an overcard fight on the schedule of most live shows i've been to in this country
No I disagree. An overcard is something different to a co-feature. Hugie was billed as a co-feature. He was sat there on the press conference table too. Co-features are usually just before main event
They schedule a bout after the main event to give flexibility. If the undercard is full of quick stoppages, they bring forward the fight scheduled for after the main event, and that way they have a better chance of the main event hitting the TV slot in which adverts have been sold at a higher rate based on projected peak viewing figures.
quite right. didn't realise this was the co-feature. In that case it seems like it could've been related to another issue
