Have to give huge respect to the only responsible man ringside last night - Eubank SR

English was utterly perplexed as to why the fight was allowed to continue, he knew Blackwell was gonna end up hurt if the fight wasn't stopped. He even instructed JR to stop hitting him in the head and just go for the body.

Thank god the latest reports say thing are looking good for Blackwell but the mans career is over.

I think ur reading it wrong tbh. Yes he was perplexed that the fight wasn't being stopped. But he told Jr to switch to the body as he saw that he was taking headshots well. The switch to the body was to try a different approach to get a KD or KO. Bit far fetched to say he was concerned about his health rather he was looking for a way to end the fight.

Theres a saying "break down the body and the head will fall"

Stop with your nonsense threads. Eubank was imploring his son to ''take him out'' between rounds, he advised body work because Nick was standing up to the best head shots his son could throw. The attempts by clowns like you and Eubank senior himself to appoint him some moral guardian make me sick, especially as Nick Blacwell lies in a coma.

I agree with this post and I'm sure last night I heard him say chop the trunk and the tree will fall.

Eubank SR was imploring the ref to stop the fight between rounds, he knew if Nick kept on taking that kind of punishment he was gonna end up hurt and he was right.

Yep having rewatched the video where Eubanks SR tells JR to work the body rather than the face, I think he was genuinely concerned Blackwell was going to get badly hurt, you can clearly see him saying why hasn't the referee stopped the fight. Nobody wants to see anyone die in the ring.

While I agree the video is inconclusive, don't underestimate the effect the Michael Watson fight had on senior. He was never the same destructive finisher after that bout, he held something back, I guess because, ultimately, he felt responsible for what happened. So it's not 'nonsense' to suggest the welfare of Blackwell was on his mind when instructing junior between rounds. A stoppage via body shots would have got junior the win and saved Blackwell further punishment.

No one apart from senior truly knows his motivation for what he said, but an intelligent conclusion would factor in the impact of inflicting lasting damage on Watson more than two decades ago and how that makes him view the harm that can come to someone inside the ring and the reciprocal guilt which probably lasts a lifetime. Would he want his son to carry a similar guilt in his heart? No.

Your post oversimplifies the complexity of human emotions...

Well he was doing quite well.

Eubank Sr likes to talk a lot of rubbish but I think he was concerned about Blackwell, he brought it up pre-fight and he implored the ref to stop last night's fight. I detest a "British stoppage" but last night was a one-sided beating and a prime example of a fighter being too brave for his own good. Credit to Nick Blackwell, he was going out on his shield but the ref and his corner should have intervened - bleeding, swelling and quiet in the corner.

You could see Eubank JR eased off after round 7, he was throwing the jab and eased up on the uppercut which was hitting Blackwell throughout the mid-rounds. All I know is the mark of Eubank Jr was when he impored the ref to stop the fight, but Blackwell kept on throwing back and kept on coming.

Having interviewed Eubank SR, I truly do believe he told his son to back away and go to the body, he has seen the signs having had that fight with Watson and it forever haunts him to this day.

If you rewatch the fight - I would say Blackwell won a round at most, and the biased commentary of Woodhall suggested it was close - it wasn't, Blackwell was outclassed but very brave, almost too brave and his corner should have done the wise thing and pulled him out.

When Spike lost, so many people gave him stick, but him and his corner did the right thing, and he is okay now.

The problem with boxing is quitting, or knowing when you have had enough is seen as an aberration, but boxers should be educated to know the signs of when enough is enough and fans should respect boxers who have the courage to get in the ring.

Sr said 'He's going to get hurt!' before instructing Jr to go to the body and leave the head.

Whilst English was concerned about the state of Blackwell I think he was asking CEJ to go to the body because Blackwell was never wobbled, so try a different approach to getting the stoppage. Not because he didn't want Eubank to hit Blackwell again on the head.

Jnr is quite happy to mock and knock out fighters a million levels below him. To say he was easing up on Blackwell is beyond ridiculous. Jnr was gassed, and the fact that Blackwell could do nothing was more than enough reason for his corner to pull him out. Snr may have been affected by the Watson fight but urging his son to "take him out" doesn't indicate a man worried about Blackwell's health!

No blame lies on Jnr or Snr for any of this. They did their job. It seemed Lockett didn't prepare for uppercuts, and didn't pull out his fighter when he saw him take repeated uppercuts, round after round. That's all.
