Well, I am NOT going to disagree about Kovalev having the better opposition. I am sure that is the general consensus on this forum.
Kovalev because he has actually fought good oppositions. Ggg just fights bums. Kinda reminds me of Bute in that sense. Bute defended his title against handful of homeless guys until he ran into froch and rest is history. Same might happen to ggg..
Both Kovalev and Golovkin deserve the hype. Why do you think El Pollo Alvarez is running from Golovkin after promising to fight his if he beat Cotto. Why did Cotto refuse to fight Golovkin? Why did Quillin refuse, Chavez, Jr.? Golovkin wants to clean out the entire 160 lb. division, they move on.
Why did Farmboxer refuse to blow me? Willie wants to clean out the entire colon cavity of Farmboxer, then move on to Xcaliber's ass crack.:tong
There just aren't enough big names in Kovalev's vicinity. So, I will say GGG in terms of DESERVING the hype. GGG has so many possible matchups with good to great fighters (the majority of which will never happen, unfortunately). He is a much more sellable product. The moniker is catchy, he delivers KOs, packs the house and is a likeable, TV friendly, character. Hype is about potential. GGG has more of it than Kovalev. But, the reality of it is, Kovalev is proving to be the better fighter of the 2, right now. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
