John conteh obvious one, after that struggle to think who else, Shea neary? Alan rudkin? Callum smith probably gets there soon but if Bellew wins a title and defends it a few times he arguably gets a top 3 spot

LOL; if you are considering McLarnin he is clearly a long way ahead of all listed, with the possible exception of Monaghan, but even then it is not that close...

Aberdeen really doesn't have the professional boxing roots that the likes of Glasgow and Edinburgh have so I'm pretty much restricted to my choices!!

All of the above have achieved more than any other professional boxer from Aberdeen that I know of. The others I know of are Tony Kerr, John Gillan and Callum Rattray. I'm sure if you check boxrec you will agree with my reasoning for not including these guys in the top three.

Not sure tbh, I personally wasn't keen on getting involved with the professional side of the sport until I saw what could happen to a boxer if they didn't have the right people looking out for them. James Ancliff boxed for us as an amateur and won junior and multiple senior Scottish Titles, boxed for Scotland 20+ times and imo should have been in with a chance of at least a Commonwealth or British Title at Super Bantamweight.

He turned professional behind our backs and didn't have a proper coach and his manager didn't know what types of boxers he should match him with, this resulted with him being matched against the worst stylistic opponent possible on his debut and he got beat. His career ended up as a have a go journeyman and he should have achieved much more than the Scottish Titles he won

It was after a couple of years watching James' career that I decided that if any of my other boxers wanted to turn professional that i would become involved if they wanted me to.

There has been some very good amateurs come out of Aberdeen and I think that the lack of a professional presence here has stopped them from taking the next step. Hopefully now that there has been something established we can start to give these boxers the chance to fulfil their ambitions.

 

They weren't in any order, the last two aren't from Belfast as I explained.

There is a couple of lads from the Byron gym in Aberdeen that have the potential to carve out a good professional career when they decide if they want to.

John Docherty: Is only 18 but will probably pick up his first senior Middleweight Scottish Title on Saturday. Has won multiple Scottish Junior titles, fought all over the world for Scotland and is part of the GB Development squad and has all of the attributes to go very far.

Billy Stewart: Another 18 year old, 56kg and has boxed all over the world as an amateur. Multi Scottish Titles, been GB Champion and has a ready made style for the professional sport.

I have a couple of lads that if they continue to improve and stay dedicated that will inevitably turn professional but tbh unless they are properly dedicated I would rather they just stayed amateur and enjoyed their boxing!
