Boxing is a contact sport and there are great risks and at times great rewards for fighters.

I am a big Eubank jr fan but I am firmly of the belief that Loughlin and Lockett did their jobs well on this occasion. I didn't watch the fight live and I already knew that Blackwell was in a induced coma when I saw it but I thought he was still looking capable until the 10th round and was still fighting hard, he barely seemed hurt the whole fight but when the eye swelled it was game over.

The fight although not close by any means was still very competitive. Blackwell answered back every time he needed to so it would have been difficult for the ref or trainer to stop.

Imagine if Blackwell did land that big shot early in the 10th it would have been epic and a highlight of Blackwell's life, he's a warrior and deserved the opportunity.

Hindsight suggests it should have been stopped early but Lockett and Loughlin didn't have that advantage.

IMO the injury was just misfortune and bad luck, it wasn't down to lack of care by the ref and trainer and I am certain Nick will say the same when he's back to health.

Blackwell should have been pulled out much earlier he wasn't in the fight imo wasn't winning any rounds and missing most of his shots while getting nailed with some vicious uppercuts.

What you are saying isn't wrong but did Blackwell appear to be in poor shape? I don't think so, I'd hate them to go the old am's route and do open scoring with a mercy rule eg (get behind by 8 rounds and the fight is over)

He wasn't in it as much as the Channel 5 commentators were saying - they were definitely pro Blackwell

You had eejits like Woodhall who would have had Blackwell doing a 15 rounder going by the bias ****e he was speaking.

blackwell was game all night even though as said above he wasn't in it as much as channel 5 commentary were saying

he was never going to give in and still trying to get shots off, but i think the fight was definitely stopped at the right time, maybe could of done with being stopped a round or 2, god bless nick anyway wish him a full recovery

I thought he was in it as well, mainly because I thought Jr would gas out and Blackwell was absorbing all the punches without even wobbling. I thought he'd get his chance. Obviously hindsight is a great thing.

Yeah, agreed. Had it not have had the tragic after effects of Nick's injury then I wonder if anyone would have been questioning the competitiveness or stoppage at all

    He wasn't really...
He came forward yes. He even threw some shots. To be honest other than the odd jab he didn't really land anything of note - one right hand. He was fighting on instinct on muscle memory. He missed the majority of what he sent Eubanks way..

In rounds 6,7,8 he took sustained heavy's assaults. He didn't take every punch clean but he took enough.. It should have been stopped in the 8th for me. No he didn't wobble but how many clean shots round after round does a guy need to take...When a hype fighter is fighting a Latvian who wont go down but is eating shot after shot the refs step in. I think the ref could have done here. People have been mentioning Gatti and Ward on Twitter as why it was was right to continue the fight but if you watch those fights when one guys finishes punching the other one starts and they both land consistent good shots. Blackwell didn't have anything left except being tuff as hell.

    I hope he recovers.

Thought I heard Woodhall state that he had Eubank up by only 2 rounds after 8.

Those commentators were heavily biased against Eubanks all night.

I had Eubanks winning every round and Blackwell was taking serious punishment every round although he did appear to be taking it well.

The Blackwell camp may have thought Eubanks would run out of steam which there were a few signs that this could happen.

Hindsight is wonderful and I had no idea when the ref called off the fight that Nick Blackwell's health was seriously damaged and his boxing career over.

Hope he makes a good recovery

I don't think the commentary was as bad as I thought it was going to be when I eventually head it. Woodhall mentioned a number of times that Blackwell needed to work more, force the pace or use the cross arm defence to block the uppercut. It wasn't toally one sided. I do think the scoring was off though Blackwell won 1 round for me. I do think the guy who was doing the play by play was trying to make it sound closer than it was for the neutrals

  14. Why did anyone think Jr would gas? He was dominant in the final rounds vs Chudinov and BJS and at no point looked like he'd gas. Find it so bizarre the commentators thought that it may happen.
