Martin and Browne are belt holders. Wilder is the same world champ Vitali was.

    What?

The title Vitali vacated (a fighter who never truly lost) still doesn't have much credibility in my eyes, and won't until Wilder and Povetkin fight. The winner is a deserving belt holder, but still not the world champ and still doesn't move up to #2

I think Wilder is a quality fighter but he still doesn't have a top 5 win and probably only has one top ten win. He deserved to be ranked above Wlad just because he beat Stiverne? He deserves to be ranked above Povetkin who has much better wins than Wilder and has only lost to an ATG? I don't think so :nono

But he won it by beating the guy Vitality wouldn't fight, so that legitimamizes his status as world champ in my book.

Just because he didn't fight him doesn't mean he wouldn't. He didn't fight a lot of people. The idea that Vitali retired to avoid Stiverne is ludicrous, Vitali would probably still give a shellacking to Stiverne right now :deal

This is one of those moments in heavyweight boxing when the Top 5 (and the order) is obvious

    Fury
    Wlad
    Povetkin
    Wilder
    Ortiz

Now this is a fair list.

Wilder should be above Ortiz IMO

Cheers. Yeah I spent a fair bit of time thinking about that, and there is every chance I would have picked different on a different day - the Povetkin fight could change everything. I really like Ortiz' style, and while he's not as dramatic as Wilder to watch and while people could say they think he's not got as many strengths - he ultimately has been fighting at a close level to Wilder yet he's not looked overly stretched yet... just gone in and done business He is working his way through fights and wins have looked inevitable every time, whereas Wilder has also done well but relatively speaking he has been through wars.

I see Ortiz as a better rounded and more disciplined/mature operator and if the two fought and I *had* to right now I'd pick Ortiz over Wilder so it'd be a bit strange of me to pick them the other way around. Always a hard call though, really anyone in the top 5 could potentially beat most other guys in the top 5 on the right day. This is why we have the fights and it's always worth watching closely ranked fighters!
