Marvin Hagler v Joe Calzaghe

Calzaghe by easy decision. Speed and size.

 

The real question is whether Hagler can seriously hurt Calzaghe who did have a very good chin. If he can, then he needs to knock him out because he's not outworking Joe. I think Calzaghe could take it on points, he did beat some very good names in his time. But if I'm wrong, I wouldn't be shocked, let's put it like that.

 

hagler would mince Kessler. During Mikkels's MW career, Kessler got nowhere above national level, and only took off in the vacuum of SMW. Jusging by MIkkels MW career, Hagler absolutely destroys him - Kessler wouldn't even get near a shot at his title.

prime Hagler might well be the first to stop 40something Hopkins, and certainly outhustles him.

joe showed no interest in taking up andres offer of a fight, though was always happy to fight the Will Mcintyres of the world for 11 years.

but haggler I am sure would have given ward a tremendous battle.

 

For those saying Hagler was too small.

Hagler proved too big for Tommy Hearns who was big enough to out point a prime Virgil Hill which is a better scalp than any of Calzaghe's career.

well prime bhop would be something else, much close, a SD for the Hag.

but yeh old man bhop gets potentially stopped first time by prime Marv.

 

I dontthink so, his "skills" were really just volume from fitness (which was admittedly elite), protection from refs in Wales, and being an awkward prospect for others by dint of being a southpaw. Obviously he was not unskilled either, he was at Eurolevel in that department.

He always trailed in accuracy behind anyone of note he fought (Kessler (until he went one handed) and Hopkins). Reid also was ahead in accuracy.

cowardzaghe fans will be pleased to know that the documentary that joe made about himself MR Cowardzaghe ( which bombed at the cinema, not being shown barely anywhere) has been screened on the BBC tonight just weeks after its DVD release.

however it was only on BBC Wales, it seems the rest of the UK was not interested enough to give it aberth, instead going with screening a Womens friendly football match as being more important than joes wbo travails. (I am just telling you what they are doing, don't blame me for the BBC not showing much interest).

This will at least appease his welsh fans, who have been given the chance to watch the movie for free.

 

I like this. Maybe not the ideal oppenent for Marvin. He'd lose by decision imo.

 

Providing Marvin's not impeded by being the signifigantly smaller guy,he outpoints Joe.
Hagler's southpaw stance and sheer toughness gives him the edge.

Would be a close one though.

Even though Joe is gifted, to say the least, Hagler would make him look very VERY bad
