There was a time when a British Heavyweight World Champion would be mega celebrated !

I agree, but admit I don't feel as if I've just seen a world level fight. Martin clearly froze, threw nothing, and the fight was over with someone dodging the count. No reflection on AJ, but it does have the feeling of anti-climax about it.

 

Joshua was a huge odds on favourite and we just didn't know how good Martin was, we found out.

I'm personally delighted for him and it's great for British boxing but 16 fights in and now a world champion we need to see the level of opposition ramped up.

The IBF have served up JoJo Dan and Bizier for Brook as mandatories so I'm not holding my breath that Joshua is going to be tested by a proven fighter any time soon.

So boxing fans sort of know what's coming and it's hard to get excited about it.

 

I don't know... I like joshua. Nice seeing him trying to stay humble and spending time with the fans. I genuinely believe that is his personality. I just feel like he'll never be a Mike tyson type of heavyweight.. Someone who scared the sht out if opponents before they got in the ring.. He was one of a kind.

 

The problem is was Martin was as bad as some thought. It wasn't an exciting right and u still feel your watching a guy on the way up rather up in a fight he should win rather than a legit fight

 

Because of how easy it was I think everyone is just a little flat as an audience and I think AJ is as well. I'm sure he doesn't care how he won it as he honestly believes he is the best in the world. He isn't deluded, deep down he knows he didn't beat the best of that division, but his time will come.

Compare and contrast that with Tyson Fury win against the best and particularly as an underdog. There was the emotion, tears and joy from his family/friends ringside which is all part of the drama.

 

we've been fed some weak title fights over the past decade which have reduced the HW titles importance, but we've also had some British bums (Fraudley is a swindler which ever way you look at it, and Pricey, well, hes just plain bummish) we've raised hoohaa about who amounted to nothing. People are waiting fro AJ to do something.

 

Britain already has THE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION.

Why would a Brit want to celebrate a pretender winning a paper title when we already have the real world champion ?
A paper title that was rudely taken away from our real world champion a couple of days after he became the champion.

It's not Joshua's fault but his pretensions of being a "world champion" should be met with disdain, by all boxing fans around the world, and ESPECIALLY Brits.

If people prefer Joshua to Fury that's fine, but don't go celebrating him as a "world champion" until he beats Fury. :good

I like and respect Joshua.

But I bet if you ask him does he feel like he champ of the world then he's going to say no

This was just a matter of circumstance.

Fury is HW champ and that's that.

I celebrate him winning a fight but that's it.

 

I celebrated although agree he's still got to fight someone better than Martin.

To be where he is after such few fights is amazing and I cant see anyone giving him too much trouble.
