Curious to know what you guys do on your rest days? As most of us probably work 5-6 days a week at the gym I was wondering what those 1 or 2 days off look like for you? Do you run? Do you take a break from the diet? Watch tape? Hang with friends? Ive heard some people use those days as the only days they indulge whether it be alcohol or weed (not recommended to anyone) Anyway, just curious to know :bbb
my coach recommends easy walk or something, rest doesnt mean lying in bed whole day or sitting infront of tv like potato.. i have a band so i play those days, cleaning apartment or go to city for a walk with my gf, or basketball etc..
I just take it easy. Don't have a set routine. I can't afford to eat dirty so it's not like that's a problem. We just put our body through 5-6 sessions of hell. The least we can do is take it slow.
I have other things going in my life, I focus on those things when I don't train. I practically don't have like fixed rest days in terms of neither doing something sport-related nor related to my studies and academic career or I simply have to work some job to get some extra money. Once in a while I force myself to take a break from everything and then just kill myself with alcohol, junk food etc. I take like 3 days a month straight to do whatever I like. Rest days as in resting from boxing I don't do anything sport-related. I don't see what the point in running would be, running can be extremely hard on your body if you trained for 5-6 days straight before that, rest days for me mean doing absolutely nothing. I take "breaks" from diet all the time but I'm a heavyweight so it's not that relevant. I can't imagine following some strict diet when I'm not a professional athlete. If someone would pay me, get me a nutritionists and all that I might consider it, but as it is right now I'm definitely not depriving myself of anything.
I don't always practice what I preach, but active recovery is good on your rest days. As stated above, it's better not to just lye around all day for recovery. Moving around, maybe doing a light jog or cycle and some mobility work gets the blood flowing and removes some of the residual fatigue and by-products from your more intense sessions. It's always good to schedule hard days followed by recovery days in that respect.
I personally do two sessions a day mon-Saturday so my rest day sunday i litrerally do nothing but rest and I always feel great by Monday morning again.
For me.. Light stretches, chill out, get enough sleep... Eat enough foods with potassium (bananas, 90% dark chocolate, leafy greens) Eat good proteins (chicken mmmmm) Get my mind off worry, breath............. And think positive!!!:happy
