Didn't realise Lucian Bute was beating Golovkin in their amateur fight before the KO

    Gennady Golovkin was even given a standing 8 count in the 3rd round and was getting beaten on, pretty fortunate to get the knockout but it was more of a lucky punch.

    It was clear that Bute's southpaw style, speed and reach was giving Golovkin problems. Interesting how Golovkin has changed his style quite a bit, he's used to be a lot quicker on his feet back then but even then he had one punch KO power. Funny how someone like Willie Monroe could give Golovkin problems.

    Maybe Golokvin just really has a problem with southpaws? Probably a good idea to not fight Lara then. :huh

    I had Bute winning before the stoppage, although I'm not sure the what the official score was at that point.

    However, you cannot use this to say that Lara beats GGG. For a start, GGG won the fight by KO. Bute was (and still is) a top 168 fighter and he is significantly bigger than Golovkin, so any KO win is a good win. It would be probably his best pro win.

    Most great fighters have been in trouble at some point or another. GGG did well to survive and knock Bute out later on.

    I find it insane how often people pull up fights from years ago and apply it to the fighter right now. I'm not saying similar wouldn't happen, that'd be as stupid as saying the same WOULD.

    The year before that in 2002 Bute beat Gaydarbekov at Euro's he was a excellent amateur.

    Bute knew he was behind and went all out in the 3rd to try to catch up. That cost him eventually.
