Does anyone from 154-168 beat prime RJJ?

Roy would knock Nunn's ass out similar to Toney. Eubank could beat him just maybe. Calzaghe has no shot against a prime Roy at 168!

 

Hagler beats him at middleweight IMO.

 

Toney's hook was short, correct and untelegraphed. Jones's hook was wide, open and left him off-balance.

 

hagler might be flummoxed once or twice by roy's patented, bread and butter- wind up the right and then throw the left. after that, it's all hagler.

It's really a silly premise for a thread to say no man in history could ever beat Jones, it's just stupid to say that ANY FIGHTER EVER was that good he beats every middleweight and super middle of all time... Jones was clever had fantastic skills and attributes but so did dozens of others at this weight.

 

Nunn lived off the jab, Roy couldn't be jabbed at middleweight remember. Nunn has a height and reach advantage, but Roy has the speed, reflexes, and power! I do agree that Hagler would hurt Roy at the body and beat him at 160. But nobody else!

 

Yet Jones out hooked and schooled him to the point of him looking like a sparring partner.

Congrats, he beat a man who was on a drip in hospital the night before to keep him alive.

 

First of all, 154-168 means BETWEEN those weights.

Second, again, the real question needs to be "who beats RJJ >50%" not who COULD beat him. Obviously many COULD.

Third, Michael Nunn is literally my favorite fighter ever. I have his early TV fights on VHS tapes in my closet. Loved him. Prime RJJ whips him 9 times out of 10. But Nunn COULD beat him.

Basically, until he was 35 RJJ was unbeaten, and was the best ive ever seen in his prime. Hagler, Nunn, etc COULD beat him, but in my opinion ONLY Sugar ray Robinson has a chance to fight him 100 times and come out with a winning record.

 

Sugar Ray was too small. Jones was 180 against Hopkins, and SRR struggled to eat enough to come in at 157-158, and Jones had far less bodyfat!
