Where does Lennox Lewis rank as a HW ATG

Wow. Never heard this before. Is there a source for this, or do you remember it happening (or both)?

It even says in Mike Tyson book that Lewis sued him in 1996 and Tyson was stripped off the WBC strap.

The only thing you are right about is Lewis sueing him again later on.

The reason Lennox Lewis FOUGHT Oliver McCall instead in 1996 was because Tyson was STRIPPED of the WBC belt for refusing to fight Lewis the 2nd time, (it was for the vacant title you clown). :rofl

And I told you King and Tyson gave the belt up to peruse a more lucrative fight with Holyfield for the WBA belt instead.

Lewis turned down 13m in favour for 4m. There was no law suit because it was a joint agreement.



And Lewis only sued tyson in 02 for breaching the rematch contract.

 

Lewis could easily have said," NO THANKS" and went ahead with a guaranteed world title fight and a career highest purse... But he never fancied his chances against that version of Tyson. But Lewis jumped at the meagre £3 million step-a-side money, when the reality is he could have had £14 million + title fight... ok melt

 

Lennox Lewis is a glorified bum, who only fought misfits and hasbeens.

 

It was actually 13.5 million that Lewis's camp turned down. Because they knew they could get more money. They offered Tyson a guaranteed purse of $45 million which would also have made Lewis at least double what Tyson camp previously offered.

"Because of some bull**** lawsuit by Lennox Lewis, I had to relinquish my WBC belt right after the Seldon fight. Lewis was the mandatory challenger, but I wanted to unify the titles."

Tyson, even contradicts himself. He wanted to unify the titles, yet how can you do that if you give them up??

That suit was to get the WBC belt off Tyson. Lewis wanted the belt and he got it in the boardroom just like he did with Bowe. He wanted the belt without Tyson attached to it

All the offering Tyson big money fights was nothing but hot air. Lewis was tied into a contract with HBO and he knew it wasn't feasible to fight Tyson on Show Time.

 

Top-25. Maybe 18-19, but not higher. He lost vs McCall and Rahman, two journeyman. He fought a past-prime Tucker to win the WBC title. In his first title defense against Frank Bruno he was down on points before he got the KO. Bruno 4 years earlier was schooled in 5 rounds by Tyson before he got KO'ed. Then he defended his title once more against a bum, Phil Jackson before he got KO'ed by McCall.

Then he won the tiltle 3 years later by a KO win over McCall and defended it four times against b-level fighters at best. Akinwande, Golota, Briggs and Mavrovic before he went on to fight Holyfield. A past-prime Holyfield, Lewis got robbed in the first fight, and should've won a UD. The second fight was pretty even, but i had Lewis winning 7/5. Yet again this was against a past-prime Holyfield. Then he fought three b/c-level boxers again. Grant, Botha and Tua.

After this he fought Tyson, and i don't even think this is a notable win. It's like comparing the current Roy Jones Jr with prime Roy Jones Jr. Current Roy Jones wouldn't last a minute against prime Roy Jones. Just like 2002 version of Tyson wouldn't last a minute against prime Mike Tyson. Lewis then fought Vitali and was behind on every scorecard, but only won due to the damage on Vitalis face. If Vitali wasn't that weak for cuts, then he wouldn't have been stopped by the doctor. Lewis got beated up just as much, but wasn't or isn't as weak for cuts as Klitschko. After the fight a rematch were on the line, but Lewis ducked Vitali, and retired.

I am not that impressed by his legacy. Not one world class HW fighter. He fought two of the ATG, one was past-prime and the other was way past-prime.

Opinions though are like assholes in that everyone has them. But you cannot argue with facts.

You are correct. Lewis lost to McCall and Rahman. He was also up on the scorecards. The McCall fight he got up, but the ref stopped it. This is partly why he only ever boxed in England once ever again. Because the refs are notorious of stopping fights far too early in the UK, especially considering he was the champ. This is heavyweight boxing. But more importantly he avenged those defeats. But you obviously do not give him credit for that. **** happens in heavyweight boxing.

Muhammad Ali got dropped by so called journeyman Henry Cooper and walked back to his corner break dancing before his corner ripped his gloves to recuperate.

The undefeated Mavrovic was his mandatory. Akinwande was also Holyfields mandatory before he pulled out.

There was massive hype surrounding Golota who had beaten up Rid**** Bowe in 1996 twice, before getting knocked-the-**** out in 95 seconds by Lewis.

And as for Briggs, he was the LINEAL Heavyweight champion after beating George Foreman. Yet Lewis hammered him in 5 rounds.
