The Vargas career was an absolute example of a fighter to put in layman's terms a fighter thrown to the wolves or the USA term thrown under the bus!

The fighters he fought in the timescale scandalous if you manage a fighter correctly and tied in with the promoter the mindset should be to build fights and more so your fighter. He was cashed out before he was able to develop as a fighter.

The names he fought plenty HOF in or potential.Guys take Winky Wright totally respected here UK wise by fans of my generation. He wasn't a big draw Stateside to my knowledge and came here to the UK and made some decent coin.Ensley Bingham who had serious pop,Steve Foster,Adrian Dodson took them all to school and bar Bingham easy money.

He went back home with some decent money in his pocket, reputation intact lost to Simon and Vargas career over certainly not.

Wright went on to beat Mosely,Tito Trinidad and Quartey in his last fight.Timeline that to the cashed out Vargas who to my knowledge was certainly a draw at the gate and TV.

Another one bit the dust this past weekend, strong promoter, weak manager if the kid even had a manager. I am talking about the Avtandil Khurtsidze - Antoine Douglas fight this past weekend. Douglas was rushed into a tough fight that he wasn't prepared for. It became apparent early that Douglas, while skillful was in with a "Jake LaMotta" pressure type fighter. Douglas was not strong enough or experienced enough to handle the pressure. He tried but he got beaten down and finally stopped, hopefully Douglas can comeback but I believe he took a beating which will be hard to overcome. Promoters love it when they have control.

Not to belabor the point, but if you all want to see a "caring" promoter, watch the post fight interview with Douglas. The promoter was toweling off Douglas while the interview was going on. That Douglas' people took this opponent on two weeks notice to me is amazing. Guys how can you put a young up and comer against this guy? Team Douglas was probably sold on that the guy was 35 and coming in with 2 week notice. Had Team Douglas done their homework they would have realized that even if they had 8 weeks to prepare this was a double tough guy who doesnt stop coming.

I wanted to watch this fight..but couldnt find the complete fight on you tube..i did chk both fighters in diferent fights..
    The way i see it-
Bad opponent for Douglas!..Douglas is not skilled enough to deal with this type of fighter(a "bar slugger"is always dangerous)..Douglas just doesnt yet have the skills..but imo--thats what happens when you focus only on getting 'wins'on your record..and not focusing on advancing the fighters skill level..just lying to youself & to your fighter..😕
Also..I dont see any conviction on Douglas..he looks like his in a sparring session.(from the fights ive seen).thats one thing i see- ALOT- with boxers nowadays demps.-NO CONVICTION-(dont know if you agree )..
To me when i see a fighter with no conviction..just going through the motions..and not wanting to finish the deal..he either has the wrong mentality or there is no passion there(most likely!)...no matter what the fighter record says...
Also,i dont know the details..but starting from the trainers..to fighter..to..manager..
This fight shouldve been a no deal-
Not very hard to see that Douglas not yet ready skill wise...

The guy that was rubbing his back during the post fight interview was his promoter. Sometimes the promoter falls in love, and is blind to the limitations of his fighter and they rush him into a stupid fight, that's what might've happened here. Sad, cos Douglas is not bad at all he was a boy vs a man. Let's see if Douglas can back, after a prolonged beating like that cos that kind of beating can affect his confidence.

Jesus was 23-0 and was deported after beating Troy Dorsey in '97. My first fight with Jesus was in March '98. When he was deported he was rated # 1 '30pdr. His promoter at the time was MAIN EVENTS, and his manager was Richard Lord. I saw that they weren't doing anything with him cos they were waiting for his return to the states. I spoke to Lou Duva, and told him I would take care of him in Mexico. From March of '98 to his retirement I became his manager.
Lastly--did he already know how to fight when you started
working with him? Jesus was my first hands on fighter, before that I was an advisor, one of the first fights I had something to do with is the Sugar Ray Leonard - Marcos Geraldo fight, so you figure it out.(how many fights under his belt).
He was 23-0, rated # 1 and the NABF '30pd champ. BTW, it took almost 4yrs for Jesus to return to the states

IDK if this will do, at a presser in LA, Mayweather, started counting off his past opponents, and the cars he bought after fighting them. Hernnadez, was a Rolls Royce, Corrales, was a Jaguar, Chavez was gonna be a Lamborghini.
Floyd likes to mess with your mind, once we went to an HBO meeting, and who was leaving, Floyd. Floyd blocked the door, Chavez, kind of picked Floyd up and moved him out of the way.

I seen this fight and couldnt understand why the Douglas team would accept such a tough stand in? It bad to loose a fight but terrible to take a beating like this kid did. Its when I see things like this that really give me the motivation to get involved on the management side of the game.

demps--i have heard of fighters having more than one manager, what is the advantage of that?
    Also-wouldnt that just complicate things?
Lastly,is that something you would advise a fighter to do?
