I would favour Froch. Of course, you can make a case for both fighters but I feel this fight would be won and lost in the minds of both boxers. GGG is used to walking through opponents. I doubt there is a fight on his record when he entered the ring expecting anything less than a KO.

I would suspect, after seven or eight rounds of trying to knock out Carl but failing to make much of an impact, that confidence would wain. Froch also hits hard enough to dissuade GGG from staying in range and trading, especially if his own punches fail to register as they have done against lesser fighters.

Apart from an iron chin and will, Froch also comes on strong in the championship rounds. Also the fact that Froch has been put down before counts in his favour as his powers of recovery were extraordinary. Take the knock down by Groves. Froch was out cold before he hit the canvass, had come round by the time he'd landed and stood up using his calf muscles alone - no grabbing of the ropes or using his gloves to gain balance.

If GGG did put him down and saw that the impact of his punches were fleeting, again I think this would dent his confidence. There is a long history in boxing of devastating KO artists unraveling in the ring when their power shots fail to put their opponent away.

Add to the mix that GGG is a small middleweight and this fight would have been made at 168, I think there are enough factors which point to a close points win for the Cobra.

 

The fight could end in a draw, too. Or a no-contest. :good

I do wonder if Calzaghe's work rate would be the most effective way of neutralising GGG's way of cutting off the ring. Would GGG ever be able to get set to throw his power shots with 1,000 punches coming back at him over the 12 rounds, keeping him off balance and thus reducing the impact of his punching? GGG could only win by KO I suspect, so it would be a case of can he trap Joe often enough to land clean and stop him?

 

Is Froch a big SMW...he seems a bit bigger than lil G but I can't say that I've ever seen them side-by-side. Bigger but so crude man he's so wide open

 

I just don't see any advantages for froch in this matchup. Golovkin outmaneuvers, outhinks, and outlands with big power. This would have been a sad blowout, glad it didn't happen.

 

So Golovkin would do worse than a shot Jermain Taylor against Froch? I think Golovkin could beat Froch.

 

Golovkin has a Granite Chin never been on the Canvas in over 400 Fights.....unless Froch is packing a Baseball Bat I don't see this happening....would be a Great Fight though.!!!!

 

I initially envisaged a war in this one - for a couple of years it was the fight I wanted most in the sport (perhaps alongside Kovalev - Stevenson) but I've actually come round more to a view IB once presented. Golovkin simply outboxes Froch to a fairly uneventful UD.
