One of those fights where Giardello might have the "answer" to any problem Hagler presents. Who wins?
Giardello. One of the few guys that took a punch as good as Hagler. Giardello in shape, beats Hagler.
I'll just say that Hagler would not enjoy fighting Giardello...I think Hagler would be a clear winner, but Joey's style doesn't suit him at all.
Very good competitive fight but I see no reason to favor giardello. Hagler by clear decision or late stoppage
Both at their best I give Hagler a shade.If he comes in with the Antuofermo /Duran mind set he gets outpointed.
I'd agree. Giardello had a fine jab and excellent skills. Hagler loved an opponent to come at him, he was an excellent counter puncher. Giardello was also a counter puncher but he had a busy jab to go with it. Giardello as was alluded above would be quite an awkward style for Hagler, and he could take a whack too. I'd favour Hagler on a good night to win a narrow decision.
At his best Id pick Giardello based on their styles but Joey was an inconsistent performer so Hagler would likely win more of a series.
Gotta go with Hagler in this one, but Joey would be competitive and could shift this to a SD or upset victory...but most likely outcome should be a Hagler decision
Giardello has a chance against Hagler in his early reign of snatching a draw. But all opponents who had a draw or loss against Hagler found out rematch Hagler at your own peril. Just ask Monroe, Watts , Sugar Ray Seales and Antuofermo.
If we get the best version of Giardello showing up fight night one who took camp seriously ect. I would lean toward him to squeak the first one over 15. I wouldn't expect a repeat though and pick Marvin by a slightly wider margin in the rematch. Not because Hagler is better in rematches it's that I dont see Joey bringing it all together 2nd time around. Just too inconsistent.
