Why Do American's Root Against Deontay Wilder?

This thread is basically people complaining that their favorite self centered American fighters aren't liked. They completely ignore the American fighters who are liked because they aren't ghetto thugs who talk trash and fight bums for 2 million dollar paychecks.

 

So I guess Ward is a thug? What about Russell Jr? What about Garcia? Log off you damn fool.

 

Btw, when Deontay beats Povetkin let's see if Fury wants him or not. Tyson gets KTFO by Wilder.

That was my response too. I put my vote down as "other". He has zero mainstream following. Even my friend, who I am trying to get into boxing, has to constantly be reminded who Wilder is. If they knew who he was they'd probably say he's protected or something. Anyway, I'll be honest, Wilder is starting to grow on me. He's still young and foolish (but so is Jon Jones). I think he has the potential to grow into a fearsome champion one day. He just has to start stepping up more. My eyes will be glued to the Povetkin fight. As far as Americans not supporting other Americans, I think that has a lot to do with the enormous mix of cultural backgrounds in the US. For example, I'm American but I always root for Germany during the World Cup because my mother is as German as an Apfel Struedel. So, I also identify with Germany. I feel like a lot of other countries give the US a lot of **** about being racist. Guess what? That's cause we have RACES. Most other countries in the world are 98% one thing and 2% "tourists". So, we're working through our issues (still). Overall, I think we don't automatically back behind American fighters because we try to be more subjective. I'm a huge GGG fan but I can agree that he's totally untested. I wasn't a Ward fan because of his fighting style and inactivity. Now that he's stepping up and taking on the Krusher, I'm really giving him a lot more credit. Etc.

 

Because America is nothing but a melting pot.

I chose the "he has been protected option". Im still surprised though, hardcore fans i can understand cuz they see who Wilder has been facing. Im very surprised the casual American Boxing fans havnt jumped on his bandwagon big style. At 1st glance he has everything that casual fans love. Hes a heavy, KO artist, unbeaten and ofcourse an American world champion. And casual fans only glance once.

They should back him though, He has definatly been protected but hes far from the only Boxer who has in this age of the sport. He is exciting and aggressive and he believes in himself. Maybe the casuals are waiting like everybody else to see how he does in his 1st REAL test against one of the divisions real big guns.

I hope he smashes Povetkin even if i think the odds are against him. And if he does we will all pay attention to him after that.

 

I guess the talent to pick top 30 fighters for his "title defenses" - "The Bronze Bambi exception rule" - plays its role on honest Americans.

Yet, I think Americans should give him credit for going abroad, something Wardke wouldn't ever consider.

Awful argument, no offence man. I'd say a large majority of the public over here wanted wlad to win, and even lots of UK posters on here wanted to see fury lose.

Boxing just isn't a big thing in America anymore. I would say most Americans that actually know about him like him.

Plus, America has a good sized bunch of people now that are self loathing and hate their own country. Largely because of new world order propaganda.
