Let's take a look at all those guys he called out in those videos

Oscar was the champ at 154 when B-Hop called him out. This was before Oscar actually moved up to MW to pick up (or rather be gifted by the judges) Felix Sturm's MW crown off him.

Oscar had only been at 154 for 2 fights at that time and B-Hop had obviously been calling him out before that interview too.

Shane Mosley wasn't even a world champion at 154 when B-Hop called him out in that interview and he'd only just moved up from 147 recently. His first fight at 154 (a NC against Raul Marquez in a non title fight) was one month prior to B-Hop calling him out in that interview.

Fernando Vargas didn't even hold a belt at that time either. In fact, he had just been stopped by Oscar in his previous outing 6 months earlier.

Winky Wright was a 154 pounder.

Ricardo Mayorga was the champ at 147.

B-Hop wasn't just calling out 154 and 147 pounders on national TV and telling them to ''stop hiding behind their promoters'', he was calling them out directly in a forceful manner and even calling for the likes of Larry Merchant to publicly shame them and accuse them of being cowards on national TV if they didn't face him and he was also calling for boxing fans to exert their collective pressure on them to fight him as well.

Have you ever seen Golovkin do that to Floyd? No. And he offered to move down to 154 for that fight if and only if Floyd was interested, the division where Floyd was the unified 154lb king, if not no problem. And you certainly wouldn't see him on national Tv lobbying Max Kellerman to publicly shame Floyd and accuse him of being a coward if he didn't move up in weight to face him either.

He didn't expect Floyd to move up a singe pound past a division he'd fought in and he wasn't staring down the camera lens calling him out on national TV and accusing him of being a coward or trying to lobby others to do so as well. He was always respectful towards Floyd and most of time when he even mentioned his name it was only when he was responding to questions asking him if he'd fight him.

Eveyone in or a few divisions North or South of Floyd's would love that fight. WTF do you think B-Hop would've been doing if Floyd was the champ at 154 or 147 when he reigned at 160? Saying ''he's too small''? :rofl He would've been begging for that fight and publicly accusing Floyd of being a coward and ducking him on national TV even though he turned pro at 2lbs over the LHW limit. atsch

And when Golovkin said he'd move down in weight for a Canelo fight it was when Canelo was the champion at 154 or campaigning there, not when he was the reigning WBC lineal champion at 160, a belt Golovkin has shamelessly been denied the opportunity to contest for a years even though he has been the most deserving candidate out there for a long time. Last week was the 3rd anniversary of the last time the WBC MW title was contested at the MW limit atsch

Now when B-Hop was calling out all those 147 and 154 pounders, he himself was being called out REPEATEDLY and DIRECTLY by Calzaghe at 168 and he was being offered a career high payday to fight him in the US and then again after that in the UK. Numerous offers were made and B-Hop acknowledges there were too and that Frank fish eyes hounded him about talking the fight for years, to the point where B-Hop refused to answer his calls.

And it's not like B-Hop hadn't expressed any interest in going up to 168 to grab a title either because in his own words he was ''begging'' for the fight against WBA SMW champion Byron Mitchell.

He also had the big rematch with Roy waiting for him at a higher weight too.

''I'm glad he (Super Joe) feels comfortable fighting at his real weight that he could have been at a couple of years ago.. I know the feeling Joe I did it for 13 years at middleweight''

Hopkins turned pro in 1998 aged 23 and he didn't move up from MW until 2006, ie. 18 years later (he turned pro at 177) when he lost his belts against Taylor and then lost the rematch when he tried to regain them. And this is despite him having unified all 4 of them nearly 3 years before he fought up at the new weight. He said he spent 13 years draining himself down to MW and it he found it a struggle as opposed to fighting at his real weight.

Golovkin turned pro in 2006 aged 24 and has been at MW for 10 years and hasn't fulfilled his goal of unifying all the belts yet.

This is what people either overlook or aren't aware of.

I've been saying for years that although Bernard deserves huge credit for fighting the likes of Joe, Dawson, Tarver and Kovalev etc, he only took on those fights when he was in a position where he had nothing to lose and everything to gain.

The only thing I'd add to your fantastic post, is that Bernard is 6'1 with a 75" reach. And in my honest opinion that's very significant. Because I truly believe that had he have been 5'10 with a 70" reach like GG, then he would never have moved up to LHWat any stage of his career.

Precisely. :thumbsup Chris Mannix had Bernard Hopkins on his show today, and used that very point when questioning him about his statements regarding GGG vs Kovalev.

Mannix told Bernard that when he went up two weight classes to fight Antonio Tarver he was already done with middleweight. He had already accomplished what he wanted to do at that weight division, he was never "going out of his way" in fighting Tarver.

GGG still has a LOT to do left at middleweight. He's not even the undisputed champion yet, so it's unfair for Hopkins to use his move to LHW as an example of why GGG should fight Kovalev.

And btw, Hopkins had no response when that point was brought up either. :good

Did he give no response at all? I would have thought he'd have talked his way around it.

Again, people also have to take into account that Bernard was bigger than GG. People seem fixated on weight but they overlook height and reach.

Would Bernard have fought at LHW had he been 5'10, with a 70" reach?

Would he have fought Tarver in 2006 had he have beaten Jermain Taylor?

Obviously we'll never know the answers, but it's interesting to me to speculate.

B-Hop is obviously an extremely dirty fighter too and a big part of his game is demoralizing is opponents with his roughousing and illegal tactics. He fouled to excess and continuously. His use of the head in particular has always been terrible. Even against naturally smaller opponents or ones who were coming up in weight he still fought that way. And look at how he responded when his opponents gave him just a little taste of his own medicine back, or even when they didn't and he was just pretending they had.
