Now I know most believe SRR a bridge too far for Duran, even the famed Montreal Duran. However, let's say SRR had to take on that version of Duran. Give me a brief summary of how you think the fight would play out style wise. Would Duran try and get inside the same way he did against SRL? How would SRR deal with Duran's pressure? In the end, does SRR KO him? How much does he win by on the cards? 15 round fight.
I think Robinson would stop him. Duran would be all over him just like he was against Leonard, but I don't think pressuring a puncher of that caliber would be a smart idea.
SRR as WW would have no need to fight Duran on the inside as SRL mistakenly did. SRR would probably just dance around for 15 rounds peppering Duran from the outside, with power shots as needed to keep Duran off him. Duran is tough & dangerous, but SRR would have the necessary answers. SRR by decision.
Impossible. Montreal Duran has super powers that enable him to sap his opponents' foot speed and prevent them from moving/running/dancing. Even the fastest of movers would have no choice but to fight him on his terms.
Super powers? SRL in fight 2 made Duran quit by exposing Duran's limit foot speed. And SRR is a bigger, more powerful version than SRL.
Really? Which fights of SRR make you think he'd do that with Duran and fight like SRL did against Duran 2
Welterweight Sugar Ray Robinson fighting Montreal Duran would be a boring, wide decision win for Robinson. That's no knock on Duran, one of the greatest ever, but Robinson had some attributes that would have been a disaster for Duran.
If you don't believe me just watch Montreal Duran uses his powers to take away Leonard's mobility in Montreal vs. what happens in New Orleans. Montreal: https://streamable.com/k0a0 New Orleans: https://streamable.com/325p
SRR was more dangerous than Leonard when he planted his feet and Duran's "Montreal mentality" would make him plant them at times. Robinson didn't mind mixing it up and Duran would find him heavier handed than Leonard as well as much more dangerous to press. I think Robinson would knock some aggressiveness out of Duran very early on with Duran reverting to more of style akin to the Hagler fight. He wouldn't have that much success there either. I see SRR winning by a very comfortable UD.
That's it. Duran would have his moments but Robinson takes it by around four/five points on the cards.
I think Robinson vs Villemain provides some indication of what this match up would look like. [YT]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQc6fVXIIUo#t=33[/YT]
