Going down 5 lbs is very risky if you have no experience with it. That is why Canelo created canelo weight, it gives him a big advantage. His team brings him on point and have the capability to bring him back to 172-173 on fight night. that is 12% of his body weight. Maximizing this regain won't work in the first attempt, meaning GGG might be heavily drained in the first place and will give up some lbs on fight night.

A good example to look at is Kovalev. Than JDJ started to work with him, they managed to only put him back around 182-183 lbs on fight night. In the Hopkins fight it was 189 lbs. Every body is a little bit different, you need experience with your guy to maximize the regain. Golovkin's camp has no experience in getting him down to 155 and no experience in getting him back up from that point. he would do it if he has no other options I think but as long as there are other possibilities they won't take that risk, especially as they are the camp that doesn't bend the rules in that case (MW limit is 160 and all that)
