I've never felt one that hurt, and I don't think I've ever hurt anyone with one. But it's a really effective setup punch for some reason. I think humans have a natural reflex to protect the solar plexus, much like when you instinctively protect your nutsack. So it draws a reaction. Plus it's useful for maintaining your distance.
My third ever fight in the AM's I stopped the guy from a jab to the body. Winded him and he took a knee and quit. Ofc this was just a 15 year old kid on his first ever fight, not a top level fighter, but it obviously has a fair bit of utility.
