Seen as Flanagan looks like it's going to be a nightmare, I really like this fight. The Ring have Jorge Linares as #1 lightweight and we've seen from Mitchell that he's a) beatable and b) willing to travel. I think this would mean that the WBC/WBA/Ring belts would all be on the line. I keep on backing Crolla to lose, so feel a bit nervous backing him to win this one...but you'd think he'd get it done on current form and you'd like to think that Eddie can make this one happen. Perfect fight for him - one the hardcore would like, one the casuals would like and seems very doable. P.S. Anyone else have Crolla ruining their bets this weekend? Crolla winning by knockout knocked-out an otherwise flawless five-fold. (Pulev on PTS, Canelo KO, Tommy Coyle PTS, Barroso KO, Singleton KO)
Would love to see, much prefer to have the Crolla-Terry fight of course but I'd not be complaining about this.
If I was Flanagan/Hearn, I'd be having a really good look at Terry's contract with ****** and see what the compensation/loophole situation is for jumping ship to Matchroom. I'd have no issue with a 'unify the belts fight' being PPV and it would mean these two proper pros would get paid in style. Manchester vs Manchester with the Sky marketing machine behind it and it could be a stadium job. Flanagan must know that Frank and BoxNation can't provide that.
the crolla fight won me money, barroso was way overhyped! hearn wont bother with flanagan, i think they'll look to make the linares fight or go down another avenue
Flanagan is managed by Steve Wood not FW. If fast Eddie wants to put on that fight that's who he needs to go through - and he also appears to have a decent relationship and has worked with Wood. The reason fast Eddie won't do that is because FW has offered Crolla £500k to fight Turbo and despite his BS there is no way he wants to pay Crolla that as well as Turbo. It will be Crolla versus bum next which I can't overly complain about as he took on Barroso who I thought would bang him out
But the key to getting it done is going to be resolving BoxNation vs Sky - not Steve Wood right? I must admit, I know literally nothing about how much fighters get paid, but I'd assume that if it was PPV - which it can only be with Sky - both fighters would get more than that. What I do know (work for a sports PR company) is that every fighter on Sky/Matchroom gets a hell of a lot more money from endorsement deals than anyone on BoxNation. That 'secondary' money shouldn't be discounted - brands love Sky...one of Eubank Jr's deals outstrips his fight earnings!
No it's not really Sky v BN unless FW is part of the promotion. From what I can see I doubt FW has a direct promotion contract with Flangan - he gets onwell with Wood and it seems like it's more a gentlemans agreement then anything else. Flangan has had good opportunities under Warrren Who got him Zepeda for the title on home soil so there probably isn't any reason for Turbo to consider moving. If Hearn wants to do a deal with Steve Wood who manages Flangan and Wood sees fit to ice FW out of a deal then the fight would be on sky. The problem is s I said previously - Hearn will not match what has been verbally offered to Crolla by FW. Apart from huge names like AJ and Groves etc what Matchroom fighters have big endorsement deals?
Didn't Linares bust his hand? any idea when he would be available to fight? Would love that fight, either in Manchester or the US. Would be good for Crolla to build his profile over there
