Can canelo really beat Golovkin?

I doubt Canelo can win, his style would see him trading with Golovkin and that so far has only ended one way. If Golovkin is beaten anytime soon it will be against a boxer who moves well and who can keep him out of position and that simply isn't Canelo.

If Canelo has any chance he needs to show three things, an iron chin, and iron will and have the ability to hurt Golovkin. Canelo likes fighters to come to him, he's usually the puncher but in this scenario he's the one that is likely to get over powered. But if he can take what Golovkin dishes out for a while and hit back hard enough to hurt Golovkin then we may have a fight on our hands as we all know Golovkin is easy to hit. But this is a lot of if's and buts, Golovkin has to be the favourite based on styles.

 

How do you connect FM fans to Canelo fans! You my friend are dead wrong! I am, was a FM fan and I think what Canelo is doing is plain flat out wrong! Challenging another champ of the same division to come in under the division weight? absolute nonsense! The difference with FM is, he fought Marquez at a catch weight but Marquez's belt wasn't on the line and of course Floyd's stupid a$$ did not make weight! As far as Canelo is concerned, the Canelo camp is the one that said they wanted a catch weight, which isn't too hard to believe considering what Canelo has just done to Khan! Catch weights are terrible, especially when belts are concerned. So my friend, don't make generalizations! Most of the time you'll find that your assumptions are wrong!

 

This ^ Golovkin is anything but a caveman.

Kovalev described him as a machine. Maybe he was just being nice, but that's still high praise from Sergei.

 

I don't see him winning but I also don't completely rule him out.

Golovkin lacks measuring sticks but from what you can see of both fighters he should be heavy favorite. It's just a bad style matchup for Canelo.
I see Golovkin in trouble against an elite defender who can move well but Canelo is likely going to be mauled. It should be an entertaining fight though, Canelo will fight hard and will be more effective offensively than any opponent Golovkin ever faced.

but this is the salient point - why is he lacking measuring sticks at age of 34? He should be ending his title career a year from now.

No, he has a decent work rate at times, but his defence is predictable and sub standard, it is good but easily read..

 

Might end up being a wasted talent. He already is, at least in part, given his career path.

He has not fought one, and its now been more than half a decade.

 

If GG utilizes his jab against Canelo, then he has a good chance to win. If Canelo gets GGs respect early then he can win. Canelo is a superb boxer but he's short. GG might be able to utilize his reach but something tells me that Canelo might be able to use 160 to his advantage. GG has never fought at this level in a big fight. I'd love to see how the 34 year old does under pressure.
