I read that Canelo signed to fight P.W before his motorcycle accident

Yeah, Williams had been violently ko'd by Marntinez and looked shot against Lara. Of course this fight was considered by GB.

 

PW was coming off a solid showing vs Ishida and a very questionable win vs Lara before tragedy struck.

The fight with Canelo had already been signed I believe but then the guy had that horrendous accident.

Areal tragedy. . .PW was a very charismatic, fan friendly fighter and I still maintain that him vs Canelo would have been a very intriguing matchup. It is entirely conceivable that PW could have out worked Canelo over 12 rounds.

 

That was a very risky fight for Canelo to take and he got major props from many posters here for agreeing to it. Shame Williams got hurt or that could have been a great fight.

 

It's consensus that PW was completely shot as a fighter by then...

 

No it wasn't. It was seen as a good fight and a risky one for Canleo. Many people here thought Williams would give him hell and even beat Canelo back then.

 

That's the way it looked to me. In the Lara fight, Williams couldn't get out the way of a left hand to save his life. Even the Cintron fight was competitive before it ended. I liked Paul and thought he was a good dude but he didn't seem like he had that much left at the end of his career to me.

Golovkin and Alvarez are what and what to me. I am not a particular fan of either one of them. The Williams that beat Margarito would also have beaten Alvarez in my opinion. However, that was not the same Williams after he got violently stopped by Martinez and a gift decision against Lara.

 

Bull****. Williams is as tough as they come. Canelo doesn't have the power to stop Williams and he was still somewhat green then. Williams Canelo was a pick em fight back then.
