Step back in time...........Andrew Golota versus Riddick Bowe 2

Golota is still entertaining - is Bowe still continuing his comeback?

That was a great fight MM,

On a side note why arent u posting in the lounge?

 

Hindsight being 20/20 you could make the argument Bowe didnt look all the sharp in his KO effort against Holyfield. That is, until the KO came.

I think bowe, albeit not an old fighter chronologically speaking he was probably losing it anyway...same way Mathew Saad Mohamad was reduced to a human punching bag by the age of 30.

I also think Golotas style, size and strength made for a style nightmare for Bowe.

It was probably good Bowe never fought Lewis .

 

The Bowe that defeated Holyfield in their first fight was not the same Bowe that defeated him in their third fight (and Holyfield clearly wasn't the same either). He also took a bad beating in that fight and the first Golota fight. Bowe wasn't exactly living a great, healthy lifestyle, so he became past-it pretty fast in his career. I don't understand how you could say he was peak against Golota in this fight, his reflexes/speed/etc. were not the same, not even close.

 

I wouldn't bother.

It would be as if to defend Bowe against a beating.

Of course, boxing fans enjoy this, but I find it irrational.

Great fight to highlight,the beating bowe took (as did andrew it has to be said at times) was brutal,andrew had both fights in his hands and then god knows what may have happened had he won,that may have been the key to settle for ever his fragile mind,a win can do wonders for any sportsman,obviously he lost it big time at the end of both bouts,and then later on agaisnt lewis and tyson very sad to see what may had his brain been wired right one of the best fighters of the 90s,any way good thread:hi:

Yes i agree lewis would have probaly won,but what im getting at is if he had had two good solid wins over bowe and not the 2 dqs,he may have turned out a different man,those must keep him up at night and weigh on his mind,for the simple reason "What if i had keep my head and won?"

My favourite fight of the 90's, between 2 of the most skilled fighters of that decade, Golota had the physical tools to be the best of that era, but was betrayed by his psychological problems. Golota ended Bowe's career in those two fights, and Riddick took Andrew down more than a couple of notches as well.
This fight saw Bowe survive two of the most lopsided rounds not ending in a KO in HW history, and Golota inexplicably fouling Bowe repeatedly despite having him at his mercy. I'm as speechless watching it now as I was the first time.

I think the step back in time series should cover something way back for the new fans. I'm thinking Dempsey vs. Willard.
Nothing against Golota, I just don't personally care about him or his career much, never was a fan.
