Should Chavez-Taylor have been stopped?

Hind sight is 20/20, and the ref admitted that if he knew there was only 2 seconds left, he would have let it go. There were a lot of factors in the stoppage. The main one, taylors corner yelling at him and distracting him from the refs instructions.

 

Lou Duva cost Taylor the fight that night. When Steele asked Taylor, " are you all right? look at me." Duva jumped onto the edge of the ring yelling taking Taylor attention from the ref. Thats why Taylor looked away. Taylor was brutaly hurt that night.

The fight could of easily been called when Duva jumped up there, as a DQ.

 

I only remember steele being asked if he thought he had any regrets on his decision that night. Till this day he stands by how he called that fight and stopped it when it did.

There's no way this fight should have been stopped. Had Steele not made such a monumental error, especially so in this being a title fight, then he would have been cognizant of the mere three seconds remaining and let it go to the bell. Meldrick Taylor would have been crowned champion as he deserved to be. No b.s. excuses from Richard Steele or anyone else about Taylor's health and safety being in danger cuts it. It was an epic screw up on the part of an inattetentive referee that cost Taylor his moment of glory.

 

Then Chavez would have been robbed of a fairNsquare, dramatic, come-from-behind KO.

Stop it with the woulda, coulda, shouldas. The ref correctly stopped the fight based on Taylor's response(or lack of)! GOOD STOPPAGE!

You've got to be a biased ignoramus ***** to say that Richard Steele should have let a fight continue when the fighter was unresponsive.

I doubt there is a soul here at ESB who would say that Meldrick Taylor was in condition to continue to fight.

I think that the people who did'nt favor the stoppage, wanted Steele to not call the fight, and pray or stall for the bell to ring, which is a :nono

When Steele waived the fight off, there was really about 6 seconds on the clock, more than enough time for Chavez to have landed a combination even, much more a bomb at a fighter who had no idea where he was at!
Look at the replay on Youtube, Steele waived it off with 6 seconds left, but the clock did'nt stop until there was 2 seconds left, thats why it is now said that Steele stopped the fight with 2 seconds remaining, but it is'nt true, there was 6.

The time is irrelevant however, when a fighter does'nt respond to a ref's command, particularly one that is showing no signs that he can continue, point blank, you stop it.

There's just no damn way that Richard Steele could defend his actions today if he would have let the fight continue, and Meldrick Taylor, like Cho He just did, had died from the results of the trauma he recieved on that night.
Absolutely no way that Steele could have put up a valid argument to let the fight continue.

 

Yes. Taylor fought an exlent fight but it was the right decison to stop it.

 

Unless you can show me how Richard Stelle could have known the exact time left that arugument doesn't hold up. The flashing light he was looking at told him that there was 10 seconds or less left and not an exact time.

 

Of course the fight should have been stopped - you respond to the ****ing ref NO MATTER WHAT - and the ref is supposed to follow protocol. Sentiment has nothing to do with it.
