Ali beat Shavers,Foreman,Frazier,Liston,Patterson and Norton. He had 3 1/2 years of his prime taken from in which time he couldve cleaned out the hw and likely prevented Frazier from becoming hw champion. Ali lost his first fight to Frazier after that long time of inactivity and still went 15 rounds with a prime Frazier. If Ali had not had that time taken from him we could have seen him beat Marcianos record with a phenomenal resume. He is the greatest and the only guy who can even be in the discussion is Robinson. You imbeciles talking about Ali being "#8" on your p4p list are clueless! Punch yourselves in the face please.

Those three years weren't taken from him as you state!!!
He's fortunate he didn't serve five years in prison but only a suspension !

The man clearly had the right to his religious convictions. Other than attention, there is absolutely no reason for you to try and bash him for standing up for what he believed in.

How would you have fared if you were jailed for your constitutionally protected religious beliefs and had titles taken away for 3 years during your prime?

Do you actually have any convictions to speak of that you would actually risk your livelihood or freedom for?

I know its easy to sit back behind that computer keyboard and rant about a draft that for one Ali wasn't even eligible for because of failed exams and now everyone also realized was morally wrong. The Vietnam war was wrong for every imaginable reason. There's no debate about that.

But I know you feel big cause you can bash and impugn Ali's character because his religious beliefs meant a great deal to him. Plus now his dead. Its a perfect chance for you to **** on his memory right?

:happy:happy:happy:happy:happy:happy:happy:happyBravo you have earned the a-hole of the year award in spectacular fashion.

And dont worry my friend when you die probably no one will even care you actually existed let alone discuss any career you might have had. Your character or lack thereof is on full display here.

Anyway as far as Alis career, his greatness started in the ring even if he is recognized around the world for what he also did outside of it.

Those days context mattered. Now every thing is fragmented and discussed based on disconnected or discontinuous tid-bits of minutia.

Its perfectly ok for folks to miss the whole forest for a bush or piece of irrelevant weed.

Before yall cynical purist decide to cast Ai's accomplishments in the ring aside remember he became the youngest boxer in history to win a title after also wining a gold medal. A god Medal which he also tossed away because that's who Ali was.

He had the quickest hands and feet of any heavyweight in any era. He wasn't a ko artist per say but his boxing ability was helped him tower over his peers. His genius strategy of dancing and not being a stationary target is why we still remember him. Those skills were seldom seem about the welterweight division. But of course I know yall purist know all this and much more.

That is not why there's a reluctance to call him great. Tyson went a way and wasn't the same but Alli returned from having been sidelined for purely political and racial reasons and won his title.
Money Mayweather is a specimen of incredible boxing acumen if night flat out genius, but when he dies that issue of character will haunt his legacy in many eyes.

He cant be considered great not because of what he didnt do in the ring but for what he was not willing to do for filthy-coward white devils who did not have the gonads to fight their own dirty wars. The routine back then was to send young blacks and even poor whites to die in meaningless misadventures. It was a revolving door of quid pro quo class exploitation.

    Ali refused.

No Viet-Cong ever called him the n-word

You may not consider him great for your own high minded reason.

But Ali will be remembered and memory cherished.

You wont, trust me buddy your death wont register a blip anywhere.

Ali died last night and he has been on the news all day and is still on the news. He is getting accolades from kings and presidents, people from around the world are expressing their grief and respect. What other fighter who passed away has gotten that. The man transcended boxing. He called himself the greatest and greatness was bestowed upon him, not only for his skills but because of he was as a man.

so the cretins who knee-jerk about draft dodging are suggesting that muhammad ali had no morals or courage. that makes them cretins.. at best, morons.

i think he may be the boxing goat. that speed, chin, agility and heart in a heavyweight. man, oh man... let's face it- that 3 1/2 year exile really hurt his career

P4P is based on the skills of two boxers at any weight. Is not based on the weight of the fighters.

Some fighters are big for their weight classes and they use this size advantage to dominate. They can rack up the wins and make their resumes look great but really does it make them p4p when they only look good and skillful picking on smaller guys?

It is not just based on technical boxing skills its also based on abilities relative to their class. So being big in their weight class is an advantage.

For what he did outside the ring, you'd have to say he is, yes. In pure boxing terms? I wouldn't say so, but I don't think he'd be far off in any list you produced even on that front.

So is being fast in your weight class. Or being smarter. Or being stronger. This nonsense about height being some sort of defining factor in anything is just that, nonsense. There are no height classes in boxing, there are no speed or strength classes in boxing, only weight classes.
