After witnessing Parker against Takam, I cannot favour Parker over Joshua. His offense is pretty good, but his defense is horrible. Yes, he has fast hands but he leaves himself exposed after getting his shots off. As Slice mentioned in the other thread, his head movement is non-existent and that spells trouble against a guy as fast and accurate as Joshua. Parker definitely has stamina issues, too, which is a real concern because it wasn't as if Takam truly brought it. Joshua clearly hits harder and his defense is sounder than Parker's. I'd be confident Joshua could handle what Parker threw at him, but Parker would be in serious trouble if Joshua landed bombs on his chin.
i would have to take AJ, i been wrong before, i just think AJs size and power will be a little too much for Parker, kinda hope i am wrong, who knows.
I agree Joshua takes Parker right now but I'm not confident as Parker is a serious threat. As Joshua fans we would've heard of a opponents outside of the top 5 as possible future match ups for AJ. There was talk of Whyte, Cornish, Sprott and Kevin Johnson all before they happened and most of us predicted our man will pull through in those fights. Like I did with Joshuas opponents before I could see AJ beating them based on various factors. When i first heard of Joseph Parker I youtubed him straight away and I didn't like what I saw. It wasn't that he boxed poorly but that he boxed properly and could very possibly beat Joshua. Joshua opponents before don't box quite as good and don't bring to the table as much as Parker does. Takam Parker fight showed Parker can mix it with the proven names. I started to take Parker seriously because of this fight. Parker surprisingly had stamina issues and that could be due to a number of things (e.g. training periodisation) BUT let's not forget our man was gassing too against Whyte. Despite these setbacks both fighters overcame to win. I'd love to see this fight sooner rather than later. I think Parker is ripe for the beating now while he's not that experienced despite his fight with Takam.
Keen to see Parker iron out the issues from Takam and get some big unfriendly audience experience so he has a good chance of beating AJ Have been sick of seeing people bagging Parker without knowing anything about him aside from at most a couple of short clips , looking at Boxrec and listening to the opinions of Brit****s on here. To be honest I rate AJ and generally a fan and slightly favour him in a fight right now but Parker is definitely my boy and he's fighting much bigger adversity in terms of backing and general haters where he has done no wrong. Good times regardless, both guys are full of talent and if or when either lose it doesn't mean they are overhyped or that it's over for the loser.. they both belong at the elite end and pretty stoked to have been following them since they were both well out of the top 100 pros knowing that we were going to likely be where we are having these conversations now.
I can half understand this and half not. Parker looks less than stellar against Takam. He gassed and he tried to go for the KO at silly times. Yet he came through with some guts and took some bombs in the process. Then on the flip side. Parker looked less than his best and beat Carlos Takam. A tough son of a ***** who beats 95% of the division. A guy who would be Joshua's best opponent by a country mile. Joshua's best win is, (Dillian Whyte,) whom I believe would get his ass ripped by Parker too. So in saying that, while Joshua is a ***ier eye test in terms of potential at HW... Parker IMO has the better top echelon wins so far.
I actually hope so, it give Parker more time to fix his weaknesses, and it will be a bigger fight and more money if Parker fights the unified champion.
I pick AJ to beat Parker too, but as Takam would be a dangerous opponent for AJ, you cannot completely discount Parker either.
Im not sold on who wins yet but Parker looking less then stella against Takam IMHO is not as much as a worry as Joshua looking less then stella and hurt vs Whyte, a relative nobody whom himself looked epileptic! Parker has fought the better opponents without a doubt, and im positive Parker would beat everyone on Joshua's resume just as convincingly. Until Joshua fights someone as good as Takam i will hold my judgement
