My views on the Cotto/Ggg step aside thing. I think Cotto didn't want anything to do with GGG, so he gave him step aside money to make the big fight with Canelo. It woulndn't have been good PR to vacate a belt before going into a PPV fight. He could'vd lost more than 800k. Cotto' s not stupid , he' s been around a long time. GGG, would've got a big fat 0 $ if he would've forced Cotto into a fight( see Canelo debacle) so 800K was better than nothing. Thats what happend, nothing to hard to comprehend.
Someone finally gets it! Fighters trying to act in their own self interest. Now if the rest of the forum could stop acting like fights should be made based upon Twitter call outs - yo
I agree with all your points here. Canelo made the wrong move to call out GGG in front of everyone after the Khan fight only to vacate days later. He pussied out/ listend to much to Oscar. He should've been the warrior I think he is. I also think that Oscar had a lot to do with the ducking. His stable is very weak.
Not to mention at one of the Jacobs-Quillin pre fight conferences both of them said they would fight GGG but only as a joint Showtime-HBO PPV :rofl:rofl Jacobs wants nothing to do with GGG and just yapping his mouth about: not fighting for chump change, fighting when time is right, if the money is there... I never hear Kovalev say: yeah I'll fight this guy when the time is right
IMO Jacobs is probably asking way too much money. He should get minimum 1,5-2,5M$, but that´s it. He is mandatory, so if he really believes and wants to be a champion, he should fight for it. He´s not a champion - he´s not in a position to dictate. For a fan, it becomes a bit too challenging to watch his fights if he is not willing to title fights. Golovkin will fight at least 4 fights at MW and during that time, Jacobs is going to fight who? Mora? Fletcher? He wont make even half a mil for those kinds of fights. He would have to fight someone real like Lemieux, but that is very risky fight for him. Too risky.
You think Canelo has a 40% chance of winning, and suggest that's such insurmountable odds it justifies ducking? The **** are you talking about.
There are no excuses. Just different circumstances. I don't know why people have trouble understanding it. Yes, GG stepped aside twice. He let Cotto and Canelo fight, but he knew that he was guaranteed to fight the winner, and he fought for the IBF title whilst they were both in camp. He also got paid. Then after Canelo beat Cotto, Canelo asked for a voluntary to fight Khan, and everyone believed that Canelo and Oscar would negotiate a fight afterwards. So GG got paid again, and he cleared up a mandatory defence in the meantime. Danny Jacobs is in a different position. He's not fighting for any other titles. He's not getting step aside money. He doesn't have the mandatory obligations that GG does. Basically, he just doesn't want to risk losing his belt to GG. And like someone else has mentioned, where is this huge amount of money what he wants going to come from? Saunders is also in the same predicament as Jacobs. Whilst it's okay to respect their honesty, the champs not fighting each other is killing the sport. The hate for GG is totally unjust. I get the frustration, and I get the hate for the hype. But we now have 3 champs on record as not wanting to fight him.
Of course not. Because this is another champ who doesn't want to fight GG in the immediate future, whilst GG's resume continues to get bashed on here on a daily basis. How anyone can criticise his resume when Jacobs, Canelo and Saunders don't want to fight him is beyond me.
Anyone who thinks this is the problem needs to watch this video from the 7 minute mark. It's very enlightening. I've even seen some people say GGG is ducking BJS, because he 'called him out'. [YT]watch?v=z-OTyL4Mrr8[/YT] Jacobs is exactly the same. "I really want to fight Golovkin, I want to prove myself... just not right now"
