I agree with you on the notion that Gennady is more skilled than Kovalev. In fact, GGG is probably one of the most skilled fighters right now P4P- I'd only select Rigo, Ward, Gonzalez and Loma as being more skilled than him in any weight division right now.

I think you're undervaluing Kovalev's overall skillset. He's not really a basic fighter whatsoever; he has solid defense, pretty good head movement and while he might not be that fast handed, he has excellent punch placement.

I think Ward is a more skilled fighter than Sergey, but it's definitely not going to be some kind of walk in the park for Andre. Sergey can take a punch, he's naturally larger than Ward, and he hits a helluva lot harder. While I suspect Ward should be able to beat him in a competitive UD, it's more than likely going to be the toughest fight of his life. Sergey is the real deal.

This thread in a nutshell is why people don't like Golovkin, Kovalev is far more proven and has fought far more credible opponents than Golovkin and yet Golovkin is some god that would have his way with anyone he fights. Kovalev has fought far better opposition and a far more diverse variety of styles. His resume ****s on Golovkin's.

The absolute same thing could've been said about Donaire and Rigo before they fought. Who was the more skilled fighter there?

I disagree Kovalev has faced much better comp than GGG has faced. Anyone can look great against guys like Wade and Monroe Jr. Kovalev would have clowned guys on that level as well in fact he already has. I say Kovalev is more skilled until GGG can showcase his skills against fighters the level that Kovalev has beaten.

Nonito still has a better resume and level of competition than Rigo.

Clearly he was more skilled than Rigo, too?

Could be. But, it is hard to say until GGG starts fighting the same caliber of competition on a consistent basis.

Is nothing alike but you tried. Rigondeaux was by far clearly a more well schooled boxer than Donaire, (that was eye test evident).
Rigo had better footwork, handspeed, defense, and offense than Donaire. Conventional wisdome had Donaire coming into the fight as a monster that would land a left hook and KO a glass jawed Rigo, not that he would outbox him. It was widely accepted Rigo was more skilled, regardless of his limited amount of pro rounds.

Golovkin has not shown that he does anything; move, footwork, speed etc......better than Kovalev. In fact, when comparing to their contemporaries in their division, Kovalev is more fleetfooted and has shown a better variety of punches than Golovkin. Golovkin stalks and cuts the ring off better, Kovalev is far better on the outside and doesn't need to utilize that tactic.

    again /thread.

Well...they did fight. So, we know for sure who is more skilled in that case.

black guys are touting kovalev over golovkin because they figure ward beats kovalev next. should kovalev beat ward, the all day every day attacks will switch from golovkin to kovalev. bet your life.
