I don't think some people understand what the term "calling someone out" actually means. A lot of supposed fans are under the impression that answering a direct question about your willingness to fight a particular opponent constitutes "calling them out".

You can see here an example of exactly how Jacobs "called out Golovkin". http://ringtv.craveonline.com/news/426871-danny-jacobs-wants-to-face-gennady-golovkin-for-my-legacy . Basically, he was asked about the possibility of a fight with Golovkinn during the course of an interview where he also answered questions on Quillin, Saunders and Mora amongst others . Ring have cleverly manipulated the material to make the comments on Golovkin the headline. But if you actually read the material, Jacobs makes it clear that the Mora rematch is in negotiation, that he won't fight Golovkin for the same money he got against Quillin and that he wants to face Saunders first because of he took Saunders' title he could command more money for putting it on the line against Golovkin. In other words, he would consider a Golovkin fight but has no intention of doing it immediately or without significantly more money on offer.

Of course, some look for ammunition to suit their prejudices, whilst others simply lack the intelligence to understand journalistic license.
:good Too many posters here think a call out is some real challenge. Of course, we're most likely talking about some teenybopper idiots unable to buy a pack of smokes still.

They were each the MW World Champion at the time. Don't act stupid to try and make a point you don't have.

This says nothing of sbustance. Don't quote me just to reply with a whiny, nonsensical, irrelevent post please. You're childish rants mean nothing.

Such anger. If going to a message board angers you this much, you have issues. Of course, you could just be 16yo, then it's par for the course with you.

Why take so much umbrage with my post anyway? Did I lie? Or are you one of those who thinks call outs are legit? That's so cute. :smoke

Top quality post , but let me add something. .

You say GG shouldn't be criticized ? I say he should.

This is a guy who has known for years and years that he would have trouble getting the big names into the ring.
Sturm wanted no part back when. Neither did Martinez. His management knew the struggles they were going to have finding decent opponents.

So when the opportunity to fight Ward presented itself , GG should have been all over that fight like a rash.
After saying he wanted all the best guys up to 168 , he should have been as clear as day about being 100% prepared to fight at 168. Instead he demanded 164 , knowing full well it would end the fight right there.
This guy ducked the one of the best fighter's in the sport when all he had around him was soup cans and lower weight guys who dragged the MW belt down to JMW.

If he had fought and beat Ward then he'd fully deserve everything you want to give him pass for.
But since he ran from the best opportunity he had , i tend to agree with the people who call him a cowardly ham man and so on.

:thumbsup

A quality post, and I tend to agree with you that Golovkin should have pushed much harder for the Ward fight.

However, that doesn't make him a coward on the level of some of the ducking 160 lb guys.

Basically, in my books if a fighter will fight everyone in his own division he is not a coward.

If he is willing to move up and challenge the best there, he deserves extra credit - which Golovkin could have got if he faced Ward.

No, I don't like Mayweather, but I'll admit he's a great fighter.

I can understand people criticising the Brook fight, but I think it's unfair to criticise GG, as he only took Brook because it was offered on a plate after he couldn't get Eubank. If he'd have targeted Brook from the outset, then fair enough. But Brook was a last minute replacement after he couldn't fight 4 other guys.

Regarding Ward, I don't think the fight was there mate. If you don't see it that way, that's cool. We all have different opinions and you know that I always respect yours.

Both fighters are at different stages of their careers and have been for some time. Whilst Ward has overcome injuries and contractual disputes to become active again, GG has obtained 3 of the 4 MW belts. I can understand how the 164 CW has perturbed people, but I personally think that it's naive to think we'd have seen the fight if GG had've agreed 168. Ward hasn't made that weight for a long time, he'd have needed at least 1 tune up, and then there's HBO's stance to consider.

In my honest opinion, it was never viable. But I'm optimistic that we can still see it at some point.

But would Lara have been a better fight than Eubank Jr, which was his first choice?

Could the fight have been made?

Would he have gotten any credit for it etc?

It's easy to look back with hindsight.

That's fair enough , but i am convinced the fight could have been made. Virgil has claimed over and over again that GG wanted no part of it.
Hunter strikes me as a very honest guy. He was dropping truth bombs on an IFL interview a while back that forced Kugan to call an abrupt halt to the interview . He always calls it how it is. There's no bull chit with him,

Ward is a tiny LHW. He din't look right to me in his only fight at the weight. He could definitely have cut to 168 imo.
GG team called 164 knowing it was impossible and would end any chance of it happening. I don't see how that can be excusable in any way. Especially after how hard he chased a fight with Froch at the full SMW limit.

GG could have took that fight at 168 and if he lost , he'd still have his belts to go back to at MW. Just like Dawson done and just like Brook is doing now.
GG ducked the biggest opportunity of his career , that couldn't be more clear cut to me. So this is why i don't really respect the guy when he goes around claiming no one wants to fight him.

Even without Ward, i think the Brook fight would be more acceptable had he fought Lara even . He fought Willy Munroe instead of Lara , making the excuse that Lara done nothing to deserve it.
What sort of a guy shoots down a 154 pounder , then signs a fight with a 147 pounder?

This guys career is a bit of a side show. I defended him fully after the Canelo debacle , then he goes and does a Canelo. I know the circumstances make it justifiable , but still , its hard to defend imo.

New to boxing ?
As of 2016 From a physical makeup standpoint Brook is a natural 154 pounder.

Imo yeah.

I slated the CEJ fight but when he destroyed Doran and gained a world ranking I was starting to warm to the fight as it gave CEJ a shot at the big time and it was a legit top 10 opponent.

But CEJ is borderline top ten and as I've said before many are better opponents than he. Let alone Brook.

Hindsight is what would be needed if Brook goes on to be a great MW champion.
