The one good thing I took from the fight with Arreola, (not much else since I admit Arreola is shot), is his jab. Mark Breland has really helped him out. Wilder held Arreola at bat with the jab and the left hook. He snaps it out there good now. I think his boxing skills are very underrated now. He's been way ahead on points in all his fights, except for Spzilka, who he was in an admittedly close fight with. But Spzilka was an awkward southpaw and a stylistic anomaly. And he never seriously threatened Wilder or hurt him, soon as he came inside he wound up heading for the hospital. At best Spzilka was heading for a very weak and flimsy decision win, even that I doubt. I think he has developed a jab and learned to fight tall, the only remaining question about Wilder for me remains his chin. I still need to see him take a good shot before I am sold on that. Honestly, the only fighter in the division I am not sure he can beat is Anthony Joshua. By far his biggest threat. I'm not saying he definitely beats Fury, Povetkin, Parker, or Ortiz, but I have no doubt he is capable of beating all those guys.
I mean. He had a heavy bag in front of him, but yeah his jab certainly didn't look bad. There's not really a whole lot you can take from that fight though. He had a corpse in front of him.
Yeah. But a good jab is generally the first thing you should develop. Wilder Has a good jab and right hand power. But that's it.
It's a great jab. Especially considering where he started when he used to get countered over the jab in the ams. That rarely happens anymore.
Somehow I get the feeling if Wilder KO's Fury, AJ, Ortiz, Povetkin and Wlad in the next 2 years. People on here would still hate him.
Oh you mean the fight that's akin to prison ****? Deontay knocked him down then **** on the dude's head with all that unnecessary wild swinging. It's for the fans.
It's gotten better. But I mean, hell, it should be good, he's 6'7 and lean, he better have a good jab or he's gonna get eaten alive at the highest level. The Arreola's and Stiverne's of the division are suckers for anyone with a good long jab. Essentially anybody with low upper body mobility. He's gotta get in with better competition to really get better.
