One of the most impressive things about Pacquiao is his ability to overcome a size disadvantage as an offensive fighter. It's much more difficult to rise through the weights as a toe to toe fighter who relies on physicality. Pacquiao's frame for boxing was optimally suited for 122-126 pounds. At 5'5.5" with a 67" reach he rarely had to encounter height and reach problems in those weights. He was also not the most muscular guy around naturally. Look at the way he steamrolled Ledwaba at 122. He walked right through him and his power was devastating. Showing up immediately. Pac won that fight with sheer power. At 126 he walked right through Barrera with ease. Barrera simply couldn't take his power either or deter Pacquiao. Again at 126 he dropped iron chinned Marquez 3 times in round 1. Additionally, Pacquiao showed very little respect for Marquez's power at 126. Despite taking Marquez flush bombs he just ate that for breakfast. Then he went to 130. And encountered a filled out Morales. Erik, would stop Pacquiao in his tracks when he landed clean. Pacquiao couldn't just blow right through guys like Velazquez, Larios, Solis, etc. They were bigger. At even higher weights he would get pushed around by guys like Cotto and had to adjust his style. Instead of just blowing right through guys. 126 pounds was supposed to be the last stop for Pacquiao. His limit. And in a sense it was. He couldn't blow right through fighters at the higher weights like he did at 122-126. But he compensated by changing his style to make up for being matched with bigger men.
Legend! I think his detractors like to point to the end of career 147 fights Truth is, he is an ATG. Very impressive career and resume
thats the most great thing about pac manny steward once said pac was nothing more then a 135 fighter its basically as if mayweather was fighting at 160
I think there was a chance to set up shop at 140, but I truly believe that it wasn't just about money why Pacquiao moved up and stayed at 147, I think he got sick of grinding out training camps. He didn't want to focus on weight management, just boxing technique.
When PAC started doing the impossible the hates started flooding in. One man even said if PAC was to beat Cotto which he finds it impossible he would acknowledge PAC as the best ever, only to later call PAC a drug cheat.
