It is rare to have two champions from the same country in the same weight class so it is even more rare for them to be from the same city. Anthony Crolla and Terry Flanagan are both from Manchester both champions and one Is the red of Manchester United and the other is the blue of Manchester City. There is no doubt that this would fill one of the two Football stadiums and be massive but Crolla is Hearn's man and Flanagen FW's man so that's a problem and im not sure how ppv would do? I just think the football rivalry in the city will make this huge. If Corolla can get past a tough Jorge Linares then I really think the Flanagan fight is a real 50/50 shout. They are rated 2 and 3 at lightweight on boxrec.
only uk megafights are joshua-haye joshua-fury fury-haye and brook-khan that'd be a manchester mega fight lol
If you have been to a fight in Manchester then you will know we come from all over the country, for example when Kahn fought MAB there people on the trains were wearing ponchos and sombreros. Sky will market this so it will be massive in the uk. Add the personal story of Anthony Crolla's battle to get to the top and you have all the ingredients. It might not be rare in the states to have say two champions from New York but we really are a small country and Manchester aint to big so we really punch above are weight when it comes to fans and loyalty all over the country.
Khan was a big crossover star after the Olympics. He was loved/hated...but everyone knew him. Crolla or Flanagan could walk down any street in London and be completely anonymous
A mix of Haye/Fury and Joshua. Now those are mega fights. Khan-Brook or even Eubank-BJS could be megafights. If Groves could win a couple of big fights, Groves-De Gale could fit the bill too, because of Degales gold medal and Groves notoriety after Froch
Believe me because I was there with my mates wearing MAB t shirts. The vast majority of people there were supporting Berrera...! It was seen as a chance to see and say goodbye to a legend, Khan was an afterthought and still is in the UK. We were there as a celebration to Berrera and many tequilas were drunk that day.
Yeah, but if you put Khans face up on a billboard everyone knows who he is in the UK. Pretty much no one outside of a very hardcore boxing element would be able to pick Crolla or Flanagan out of a lineup Glad you enjoyed the day though!:good
Cheers, I can remember some of it..! I don't really tap into this Khan thing. He is seen as more of a joke now than credible and he has never been a ppv hit. The Crolla Flanagan fight will appeal to a city witch in turn will turn on the country through sky and media. Casual fans have never paid to watch khan, in fact his fights I have been to in England just seems to cause a bad atmosphere? Real boxing fans will lap it up, im convinced of that.
As Proud Warrior pointed out, Both are world champions, it's a unification fight and one of the most important things to factor in is Crolla is a Manchester Utd fan and Flanagan is a Manchester City fan. That will sell in Manchester, those football teams have massive support and football fans will buy in to it, I'm not saying they are in any way similar but look at how many Manchester City fans followed Hatton, football fans are loyal sorts and will go an support their man.
Brook khan aint no longer a mega fight its passed Barely even a arena fight once ggg brutalizes brook
You forgot they went to the same school! THis fight has to happen but sadly i dont think it will due to Hearn and ******. Also i expect linares to beat crolla
