Do people who favour one fighter over the other because of power make you laugh?

It's not 100:1 If a fighter with a glass jaw and featherfists is fighting someone slightly less skilled than him who hits hard, the less skilled fighter is going to win.

Actually you're wrong. The pressure fighter usually beats the boxer. As history has proven time and time again.

Kovalev isn't really a pressure fighter, he's a boxer puncher.

I agree with OP, but I also agree with CST immediately after. You can't claim Kovalev is going to win because he has power and Ward does not. On the flip side, you can't claim Kovalev ONLY has power and is a slugger. From these boards alone, it looks like Ward's boxing skills is a little over rated and Kovalev's are severely under rated. Ward is a crafty boxer with little power, it's the subtle things he does in the ring that gets him the W. Kovalev is an efficient boxer that places his punches well and has the power to put you away early.

Intriguing match up to say the least.

Obviously, this is not a 100:1 fight. It's pretty tightly matched but people who favour one fighter on power alone should honestly switch to wrestling. There is so much more to boxing than that. I found it interesting that Chimbela managed to find Sergey's chin rather reliably. He was also reasonably slippery and I'd wager Ward is significantly better than that. People slamming Ward for being boring and going for safe points wins virtually every fight irritate me. I understand you are not entertained but how can one derive Ward is gonne fare badly off of that? He never hit hard; his boxing skills however might well be the best only second to Rigo's.

That's all I keep hearing now "Ward has no power, he's going to lose." Doesn't make much sense, the people who are saying this are under rating Ward's ability to negate his opponents offense.

Kovalev isn't going to destroyWard just excuse of power, but because of his non stop pressure style which is a nightmare for an opponent without the power to make Kovalev respect his punches.

Kovalev is not a pressure fighter. Golovkin applies endless pressure. Kovalev is actually a very intelligent boxer.

Kovalev does have a sort of pressure/swarmed style. He tries to overwhelm you with punches and feints.

Kovalev is definitely not a "robotic plodder" or whatever else people claimed, but his schooling of Hopkins was largely due to age and fear of being KO'd. Not saying Kovalev didn't box well, because he did, but I wouldn't ride that one too hard.

When he has his opponent hurt, sure. Otherwise he's very calculated.

Power isn't everything, but if you say it's not a factor and not sometimes a big factor then you are also laughable. Not only is a real puncher always dangerous, but it means the other guy has little or no room for error. They must execute a defensive minded game plan otherwise take some serious risks with their chin. You can out box a guy and dominate for 11 rounds and still get KTFO. Power alone isn't much if you can't land it, but in the same breath skill isn't much if you have no chin. All attributes make a difference. How much a factor each attribute will be depends on the other guys opposing attributes.

If Ward truly has no power it's a problem because Kovalev will not need to stay honest with his defense and will be able to go purely offensive which will make it all the harder for Ward to defend everything coming in. But Ward could absolutely still win a decision provided he makes few mistakes and has a really good chin. We already know Ward makes few mistakes, but we don't know how good his chin against this level of power yet. And we also don't know exactly how good Kovalev is at boxing against this level of skill yet. I can't wait for this fight.
