What does that even matter?? Were talking Dempsey vs Norton here not about there opponents.
Dempsey had a punch Norton couldnt handle. Wat more is there to discuss??

I pick Dempsey, but more tentativley than most have. Norton could deal with speed better than he could power, and imo a lot of Dempsey's ko's were more about his opponent not handling the speed.

    I agree.

However, this was not a very close fight. Norton landed 65% more power shots, 50% more punches overall. And I know the old yarn about punch stats, but there are a lot of times they accurately paint the picture of the overall action. Norton hit Ali harder and more often throughout the fight. Ali's defense was porous at best, his offense flimsy.

How I see it too. Dempsey big puncher and aggressive against a fighter with a poor chin who could not fight going backwards. Dempsey gets to him eventually.

Any of them that caught him with his mouth open as Norton did. Quarry broke Shavers jaw which means exactly what? Sorry its nonsen:scaredas:se.This is a guy who drew with Scott Ledoux.:patsch

Look Dempsey is going to come forward and fast ,Norton is not going to go toe to toe with him so he has no alternative but to go backwards and Kenny could not fight backing up, his trailing foot in the bucket style meant he was only effective going forward, which worked fine against average hitters like Ali,Holmes and Young , against top punchers like Foreman , ****ey, and certainly Dempsey he is a rabbit caught in the head lights ,pushed back to the ropes and then taken out.

If you don't think the trilogy was three close fights I'm wasting my time debating with you.:hi:

You are seriously citing the ****ey result as relevant to Norton but dismissing the Flynn result as relative to Dempsey?

Another potential outcome is that Dempsey comes forward and fast like Quarry did and Norton picks him off, stuns him and stops him. Dempsey's attack certainly vacillated between inspired and simplistic. If he comes forward in the latter fashion it could be an easy night for Kenny.

Would Dempsey be able to stand over Norton if he had him down??

I wonder how many of Dempseys Kos would have happened if he had to go to a neutral corner

Yes and anyone who catches Dempsey cold will knock him out as Flynn did. Doesn't mean I'd favourite Flynn to do it again.

Which Dempsey opponent was more dangerous than Norton though, in your opinion?

There's a reason Holy didn't stay at 190 when he moved to HW. Dempsey would have bulked similarly.

I favour him to beat Norton so you're preaching to the choir there.

Dempsey is a terrible matchup for Norton.

Norton never responded well to punchers, and his defense left too much of an opening for the left hook. Any athletic advantage he has gets given up once he gets hit because he freezes, the head stays stationary, and he'd fall back in straight lines to the ropes. It didn't matter in the puncher was 25 pounds lighter. He's fortunate fights with Lyle, Frazier, and prime Quarry never materialized.

If you want to argue that Ken gets to him first, cool, but that's the only real way I could see him winning.

Equating prime Norton with the goof***** Dempsey defended against is the lowest in intellectual dishonesty.

He didn't freeze against Ali or Holmes

Neither were punchers, and Holmes was carrying a biceps injury, still a good performance by Kenny
