Nice anti-climax. Instead of Conlon vs Shakur in the final we get.. no final.

No semi-final don't you mean. Shakur has his work cut out against the Robeisy-Akhmadaliev winner.

BBC reporting Nikitin rumoured to be out.

To be fair AIBA are quite open about the fact that they are no longer an amateur body.

The even run the APB which has the word PROFESSIONAL in the title.

We still call this boxing "amateur" because we're so used to it, but it's not and hasn't been for about 5 years.

The correct term is "Olympic style" boxing

    Yeleussinov asked about going pro:
He answered in English when asked if he wanted to turn pro.
"Right now, I don't know," he said.

Daniyar Yeleussinov's brother Dauren is currently a professional boxer:

The fact that his brother has already taken the plunge, would lead you to hope he does

WOW how is that fair, ramirez will have had 4 fights to get to the final and shakur has 2 fights, ramirez also gets one rest day, that is ridiculous how can that be allowed

veitia out on a controversial decision last night, by a guy he'd beaten 50-45 recently, zoirov now the favourite has also been easily beaten by veitia, another gold medalist robbed of his chance

    What else can be done?

If the Russian can't fight, he can't fight

Yeah, true. He doesn't need to do anything else in the sport of boxing, he's an ATG. There's no harm in him going for the paid ranks and pick up some cheques.

THIS. Also, many uneducated/ignorant Americans still think Olympic style fighters are a bunch of 16 year old kids.

There should be a clear and bright line between judges/referees and fighters. there should be independence and the appearance of independence.

Ethically you dont employ fighters and judge/referee them also.. its called checks and balance, fair and balanced you get the idea..

go educate your ignorance in ethics morality.

ramiez has fought three hard fights already, why not put conlan back in to replace nikitin? or make stevenson fight akmahdaliev, ramirez will have had twice as many fights to get to the final as stevenson and also only gets one day rest, stevenson gets four, that is truly ridiculous

stevenson must have had the easiest route in history to an Olympic final , de jesus best win was a bronze in pan am games 5 years ago, and the mongolian not great either, ridiculous draw
