Would you consider Meldrick Taylor an Atg?

interesting given his autobiography is aptly titled Two seconds from Glory. And I think that says it - had he not been stopped, I would rank him an ATG for certain.

Personally at the time I think he had the Chav beat and 2 seconds would have not seen him stopped/koed by Chav. But retrospective on his PD doesn't agree.

As fast as he was, he still was pretty easy to hit, even before the Chavez fight. And by no means a big puncher. So I go with no on this question.

Even if he had won the Chavez fight which IMO as hurt as he was he should have his longevity afterwards wasn't long.

Even if Chavez had not beaten his psychological resistance out of him his record after against top opposition was hit and miss.

Now had he beaten Chavez and then beat SweetPea and Camacho two lighter punching but ATG fighters then he could have been. Too bad you couldn't throw Sweet Pea, Howard Davis Jr, Camacho and Taylor into a tournament and watch the magic they would conjure fighting each other.

 

A better question would be whether Meldrick Taylor is HoF worthy

No. He'd need Chavez and at least one more ATG/near-ATG win or several more near-elite wins, imo. Great talent and excellent career though.

 

His pure talent has yet to be be seen in any prospect since IMO.

Not sure if he is ATG... but 8f I built a fighter the MF'R would probably be Meldrick.

Taylor suffered a broken eye socket, broken ribs, badly busted up face, had a lot of blood pumped from his stomach, was ****ing blood for weeks and was in hospital for almost 2 weeks following the fight. :hi:
