Sanders would have been a terrible matchup for Roy, he had serious power and very good hand speed for a HW. I would like Roy's chances the longer the fight went on, but I don't believe Sanders would have showed him any respect and would have got him out of there early..

Byrd would have been a winnable fight IMO, but probably a defensive chess match.

I also think Roy had a good chance of beating that version of Tyson had Roy been able to avoid the big punches.

With Roy's size and style, you can't blame him for wanting the right HW fights, or a ton of money to go in at a huge disadvantage.

    I agree.

I think he'd have a had a chance of beating Byrd and Tyson, and I think he'd have beaten Evander. But Sanders and Vitali etc would have been too much for him.

TBF Sanders could be a horrendous match up for anyone ever, let alone a blown up 175

You anihilate Waldo and come close to doing the same to Vitali (in a round no less) while being so notorious lazy in the gym.... imagine what he could have done if he had given 100% to boxing

Loudon - i'll get round to replying to the PM as soon as im in the right frame of mind. Was spot on as usual. Thanks mate :good:

Sanders wasnt a problem for lots of HWs, what do you mean, he was unable to become a top contender when in his absolute prime.

but he wouldnt have been abn easy shot for roy.

    It styles isn't it.

In my opinion, Chris Byrd had more talent. But I think a Roy-Byrd fight would have been a lacklustre chess match. I could envisage the crowd becoming restless. In a Roy-Sanders fight, I think Sanders would have just walked him down. It wouldn't have been a cagey affair like with Byrd. I think he'd have just gone at him hard.

well he'd kinda have to, given his stamina issues later on. But I think roy is being underestimated if he isnt capable of outgassing six round sanders by simply being on his toes and being superelusive until the fatboy gassed out before half distance.

Of course thats older sanders.... young prime sanders would have a fair chance against jones. if roy can beat a weak titlist, he can probably beat a middling failed contender
