Example: For George Foreman it was style of Ali - obvious pick. Your opinion on the following list - hardest style for these fighters Ray Robinson Roberto Duran Floyd Mayweather Roy Jones Joe Louis Larry Holmes Mike Tyson Evander Holyfield Lennox Lewis Wlad Klitschko Vitali Klitschko
Basically all the people they lost to is the answer. Mayweather's would be someone with SRL's skill set.
:good I like this post, and I agree with Monzon for Robinson and Robinson for Mayweather especially....add SRL for Mayweather too.
I'm only discussing prime weights. Ray Robinson - Nobody at welter, Monzon at middle. Roberto Duran - Ike Williams Floyd Mayweather - Roberto Duran Roy Jones - Nobody at SMW, Spinks at LHW. Joe Louis - Mike Tyson Larry Holmes - Mike Tyson Mike Tyson - Vitali Klitschko Evander Holyfield - Larry Holmes Lennox Lewis - George Foreman Wlad Klitschko - Mike Tyson/George Foreman Vitali Klitschko - George Foreman/Lennox Lewis
Robinson---A tall opponent. Someone with a nice reach advantage so Sugar Ray is not owning the ring. Duran---a busy fighter that has to have a superb or pretty good defense Mayweather--I always thought the tall long boxer types are all wrong. Vince Phillips/Hearns/those type tall guys. Another style would be technicians like a Leonard or Griffith or Napoles. But were talking major league tools. Jones--southpaws. Guys that have the tools to not let Jones dictate things from the outside and do things when he wants. Tall guys with a good defense like a Maske are tough. Joe Louis---lots of mobility and upper body movement. Great conditioning and a guy not susceptible to counters. A jabber that keeps those hands up for 15 rounds. Holmes---a finisher and guy with the ability to come right over the top of that jab. Anyone that can nullify his jab, which is easier said than done. Tyson-- angles and accuracy. Not intimidated. A big hitter capable of backing Mike up is another. Holyfield----jabbers with movement. Accurate hands. Evander gets hit and the good jabbers can score the points & just go for the decision win, not a tko. Lewis---you have to make him uncomfortable and get him off that pitchers mound of his. Take him later into a fight and get him a little fatigued and those legs no longer bending at the knees. Like Larry Holmes, easier said than done. Wlad Klitschko---Sanders is all wrong. That straight left hand is always going to come over that right hand and where he holds it. Another guy to get off his comfort level. Vitali--great conditioning and the ability to reach him when he does his unorthodox leaning back/upper body movement. Lots of ringsmarts & a guy that won't get discouraged because he's getting hit and/or losing rounds.
I think for Tyson, someone with a really good inside game, who can tie him up and beat him on the inside. Also, someone with a great jab.
A jab and movement. You cannot be the Carl Williams type guy that throws a jab and stands there. Probably not a single jab either. And it is crucial to bring those hands back high against Mike. So many guys did not and lots of heavies don't. Mike loves that window.
This is exactly right. Good size, decent power, a busy jab, and good movement/mobility can go a very long way in heavyweight boxing in general.
