cannot remember the timelines to well
duran bypassed lightweight to welter to fight leaonard
was pryor 140 champ at the time ?

pryor had a very very hard style to beat as he was an unorthodox windmill and leaonard would have had his hands full.

saw pryor beat a young hearns in the amatuers despite the huge gap in height hearns could not keep pryor of him.

Aaron Pryor will never get respect on here. Because these hipsters don't respect physical boxing. They only respect pure boxing.

A volume pressure fighter like Pryor is looked down on because he isn't displaying "skill" according to the haters.

:deal although many havent watched pryor, they should know he could box off the backfoot when he choose to, and was very effective.

he was a totally unstable charature though as were all the people around him / is pryor still alive ?

he was a wildman outside the ring as well as inside.

fights that always stay in the mind were the arguello fights especially as arguello had beaten watt and pryor was always shown on uk free to air tv so 2 well known fighters to me in the early 80`s.

i remember reading, most probably on an ancient thread that pryor turned down a leanord fight but not the circumstances why.

thickheadness most probably fuelled by drugs and paranoia.

Pryor was a mad man inside and outside the ring a fight with SRL would have been one of the biggest fights of the eightys.pryor was like a punching machine incredible like a human buzzsaw.pity it never happened.

I still feel that Marvin Hagler beat Sugar but the judges called what they called as we often see:bart

Leonard destroys Pryor . Shorter reach off balance a lot, and he got nailed a lot coming in by 135 and 140 pound fighters. Imagine if the was Leonard bigger faster stronger catching him...

If you think that Leonard would beat Pryor because he has greater reach, then you ought to consider that Pryor was 5'6" 69" reach and he wrecked Tommy Hearns 6'1" 78" reach in the amateurs and Alexis Arguello 5'10" 72" reach in the pros. Ray Leonard was 5'10" 74" reach and got out hustled and out boxed by Roberto Duran 5'7" 66" reach.

Was losing to a well past his prime blown up featherweight and had to blatantly cheat to win.

Arguello was a truly great fighter. Pryor was not. Pryor was a very good fighter, but he doesn't have a superior resume to the likes of, say.... Kosta Tszyu. Whom gets harped on for his resume and is also in similar threads to this where his "greatness" varies greatly in-between fans.

Basically, he's lucky Duran didn't spend any time at 140. Not a fight he would have enjoyed.
