Almost as funny as Briggs being given a chance against Haye is that people think Haye has any strong chance against any current top 5 heavyweight contender.
Haye's a washed-up wreck who was never much good to start with. He hasn't had anything resembling a real fight in several years. He's overweight and retired several times before. He has no heart.
In his prime he was absolutely scared to engage with Wladimir, and missed wildly almost every time he went for it in any way. Despite Wlad having a 'weak chin', Haye did almost nothing to capitalize. That was when Haye was 30 years old, and Wlad was 35 already.
Now people think Haye, at 36 or 37 would be a threat to young improving fighters who are as big as Wlad !
Haye has to be the most overrated fighter ever.

As for Briggs, he positively shouldn't be licensed to box.

 

Pretty good post except I wouldn't say Haye has no heart. He didn't do much against Wlad but that's because Wlad was too big, too powerful and too good for him. Haye was simply unable to do anything against Wlad and went into survival mode just like a lot of fighters do when they are outmatched. Just because he has some survival instincts and intelligence doesn't mean he has no heart imo.

 

When someone say haye has no heart, I say they know sh#t about boxing.

 

Haye will now likely fight Browne for the a WBA Belt. Which one I don't know- they have 17 at heavyweight.

 

That's one way of looking at it but the best fighters give themselves the best chance of winning .... and for Haye, at some point in the fight, that would be to up the pace and put the pressure on, TAKE RISKS.
The best fighters don't exhibit the "intelligence" of an ordinary civilized person, they DO risk getting knocked out if it greatly increases their chances of winning. That's what champions are made of. That's what warriors are made of.

I think people have got used to rich spoiled millionaire fighters getting in the ring and not fighting. The more they get paid the less they want to fight it seems.

Real champonship fighters with heart don't just go into survival mode, not when they have the punch to knock the opponent out. After 7 or 8 rounds it's obvious Haye can't win on points, and waiting for the occasional opening had no realistic returns so he needed to take big risks at that point, instead of just waiting it out and then blaming a sore toe for the sorry performance !

But even if you want credit Haye with heart, that was over 5 years ago.
The point is, NOW Haye's heart just isn't in the game at all. He doesn't want to fight. He just wants money. If he was too civilized and intelligent to take risks 5 years ago against a big top HW, what would he do now?

Haye was a gutsy fighter at cruiserweight but at heavyweight he was a bit of a fraud.

 

Or maybe they are just old school and remember what boxing is supposed to be about.

 

Its absurd to say that about an explosive former 2 weight champion. He was in the ring taking facing the best hw at the time and most advantages go to Vlad. We are not the one taking the punches to the face or body. Expressing a valid opinion is fine, but don't hate with such word, as it make u seem not knowledgeable, when u could well be.

 

Lots of esteemed and accomplished fighters DID express the opinion that Haye lacked the necessary heart in his heavyweight fights. It's not hate, it's a valid opinion based on his performances and subsequent excuses.

Let's not pretend Haye's challenge to Wlad was honourable at all.
The two or three years of build up, the 'toe' aftermath. Promises (going back years) of destroying, decapitating, and 'cleaning up' the division of 'bums' (Haye's favourite word about fellow heavyweight fighters at the time).
And I'm not talking about a few months of BS to sell tickets, I'm talking about years of salesmanship from Haye, where he cynically capitalized on a worldwide audience of boxing fans who were demoralized with the state of heavyweight boxing.
He sold himself exactly on the idea that the OTHER challengers weren't putting in a proper effort against Wlad, and that Wlad was unnecessarily boring himself.
Then when his time came Haye gave out a worst performance than almost all of them and tried to alibi himself with the most pathetic injury excuse the media had even had the opportunity to mock boxing with.

ANYWAY, my original use of the words "no heart" in this thread was about David Haye now, not then. Not specifically the Wlad fight, but what we can expect of him now. Of course, he might prove me wrong but I think his heart's not in the game AT ALL at this point, and if he ever gets in the ring with a good CURRENT fighter who out-sizes him like Wlad did, it's more likely he'll look for an easy way than not.
In a way, I don't blame him at all either. We all have to earn a living.
