It's a good debate though, because you're right, Khan did win more rounds on Canelo, but it wasn't due to power punching / causing damage, it was just due to volume, just being more active. Canelo was being patient early as he does early in fights. One thing about Khan is he knows how to in rounds, that's why many fans wanted to see him fight Floyd, thinking he could win a decision. (If he doesn't get stopped lol)

Whereas Kell Brook may have lost all but 1 of the rounds vs GG (round 2) but he did cause more damage to GG than Khan did on Canelo.

This is how I feel. Unfortunately, I know that big time Canelo fans will find a way to spin things in a way to argue the opposite, which big Golovkin fans would do as well, if the shoe were on the other foot.

I think the defining factor in the conversation would have to be Golovkin's health in his win over Kell Brook. You just can't watch this fight and not acknowledge that he AT LEAST looked like lesser man than EVERY other fight we've ever seen him in. His movement was sub par. His hand speed, never elite, was just slow. He looked sluggish, overall, depending on his power to get the win, over a motivated Kell Brook who fought very well, until his cut and swelling right eye was too much of a hindrance, and Golovkin swarmed him.

Canelo's win over Khan was impressive; Khan outboxed him and, contrary to the scorecards produced by the judges at the fight, outpointed Canelo, up until the devastating KO, which virtually every boxing analyst predicted would happen. Impressive, yet expected. Golovkin's win, while most expected it in the weeks and months leading up to the fight, was not expected after the way he looked in the final press conference and when the fight began.

Brook would know Khan out.......................Golovkon broke Brook's eye socket and that has been confirmed, broken by a left hook............

    Golovkin's win was more impressive.

Both men struggled against their welterweight opponents, but Golovkin wasn't being out boxed like Canelo was against Khan. Canelo inevitably tapped that chin and the fight was over but had Khan had a better chin he would of been in trouble.

Golovkin on the other hand while getting hit a lot was still landing his own shots. He was in a surprisingly competitive fight, but he wasn't being comprehensively out boxed like Canelo was. He was in a tough fight but he was still having his own successes.

Also Brook would kick Khan's ass, we all can clearly see why Khan doesn't want to go anywhere near Brook.

Brook is one the greater boxers in the world today, amir Khan is amir Khan.

Khan was laid clean out but you can't really give too much credence to this.

Brook probably would've won if he hadn't been injured but he's so superior to Khan that you have to say golovkins victory was the better.

I dunno if I agree with that.

Both got stopped. Khan actually lasted longer and did not suffer permanent damage as did Brook w/the orbital injury.

It could be argued that by throwing in the towel in the 5th , Brook's corner spared their guy the indignity suffered by Khan in the sixth.

Will you argue that Brook would not have been KO'd by GGG in the 6th or maybe even in the last part of the 5th?

He was getting pummeled when it was stopped. The KO was inevitible.

Canelo KO'd Khan, but GGG may have ended Brook's career with the destruction of that eye.

Agreed. I don't we'll see Brook in the ring again for at least 12 months.

Honestly... the GGG stoppage didn't seem right to me, especially after all the success he was pulling.. I think the fight was stopped prematurely, and I'm not impressed. GGG was exposed by a WW, AND now he's more beatable than ever... he's definitely not on the level of Manny Pacquaio in his hey day.... Canelo beats him.

I'm surprised you can draw all that from a winning performance of Golovkin's that he had to execute while feeling less than 100%. I've always looked at athletes performances during times of injury or illness through the prism of their heart/dedication...because it's difficult to critique them at all since you don't know exactly how afflicted they are.. They may be fighting at 30%, and they fact that they're even making the fight competitive is an accomplishment within itself. Or, on the other hand, they could be at 90%, or on the upswing of their illness, and deserve to be assessed as an absolute equal to their opponent. But you really never know..
That's why I don't draw too many conclusions from fightsv under these circumstances

I think GGG IS one of the most overrated fighters in the last 20 years. No GGG fan will convince me otherwise.

Canelo went six rounds and was thoroughly outboxed in 4 maybe 5 of them against a featherfisted glass jawed 140lb fighter who'd been KO'd twice by average punchers and dropped several times. Canelo was even hurt in the first momentarily. He looked average against a guy brought in to be brutally KO'd.

GGG went to war with and beat a big slick counter puncher with a high KO percentage and a weight cutting natural 154lb fighter with an iron chin that aside from his hand touching once, had never been down in his career, might have lost 1 or 2 rounds, probably while fighting the worst strategically idiotic fight of his life and possibly sick. And still broke his eye and forced a stoppage.
