Am I the only one who won't be surprised if Punk wins?

People are acting like Mickey Gall is some kind of monster. He hasn't fought anyone. He's a kid with 2 pro fights. Sure he has more experience, and I think it's fair to say he's a favorite, but I wouldn't be remotely surprised if Punk won this.

I'd be very surprised but it's all about Punk and not Gall.

Punk has no background in martial arts, is I think 37 years old, is fighting at a weight class that requires skill and precision, has no distinctive physical traits, is the worst of the two by far at his main discipline (jiu jitsu), has had multiple concussions and injuries throughout his life and he really just doesn't strike me as a great "athlete".

This is maybe my most exciting part of the fight. If you brought Big E Langston from WWE and put him at HW, I wouldn't be surprised if he wins. Crazy big, surprisingly agile and athletic, crazy power. I don't need to know if he can fight to see his paths to victory. But Punk? I don't see what he possibly can do, and despite his high level of training over the past two years I'm not sure if his body or mind are going to have as sharp a development as a fighter 20 years his junior would have.

You were pretty much on point, that was embarrassing though I have to give punk some credit for not just giving up, he took a beating. Maybe they shoul dhave matched him up with someone even worse than Gall?

Giving him a BJJ guy was a bit rough imo. A wild striker made more sense.

They should have fed him a guy at that level of Mickey Gall's last opponent. But we have to give punk props, he wasn't there just for a payday, he could have tapped out early, he wanted that win.

If Gall turns out half decent in the next 2yrs than this punk dude can take some solace from that

Yeah that would have been interesting. Thing is, Mickey does look like a very capable fighter. It's not to difficult to see him rising the ranks somewhere, becoming a regional champ and getting a UFC call up. We saw what happens when Gall fights someone at the bottom three times now.

I'm interested to see CM get signed to a UFC "partner". I'd prefer Cage Warriors out of personal preference but something like Victory could work too. Put Punk in against another guy who hasn't really shown anything yet either, and see how he does across some distance.

I'd like to see him fight a weaker striker so Punk actually has a key to victory with his jits.

I only wish we saw some striking exchanges on the feet for the LOL's at CM Punk's striking level. I reckon it would have been quite funny.
