Being that he slept with over 20,000 women, Wilt Chamberlain is probably the father of at least 3 people on this forum.
Whoa, stop it. My limited gambling experience with boxing, in its entirety to my knowledge is as follows: 1. Toney over Holyfield (giving even odds) 2. Bradley dec Pacquiao at 6:1 (first fight) 3. Floyd dec Hatton hedged against Floyd win Hatton. Can't remember if I bet Taylor to beat Hopkins.
Shavers got robbed against Ali. Ali was a coward for not giving Jimmy Young a rematch. Liston may be the second best heavy of all time.
The VAST majority felt Ali beat Shavers. It was NOT a controversial decision unless you were an Ali hater. Managers make fights not the fighter. Not many would pay to see Ali fight Young a second time. By quiting on his stool as hwt champion of the world it's a huge stretch to then put Liston in the same group of ATG who never quit no matter the situation.
I read an interview where Shavers said he agreed with the decision, which is unusual, as most fighters will naturally feel they won a close fight. I thought Shavers won pretty clearly, Ali didn't have much left other than his toughness an experience and was throwing an awful lot of pitty-pat stuff. Shavers was landing the better shots, I had it 9-6 for him and I thought I may have been being a tad generous to Ali. I'm not too familiar about any negotiations for a Young rematch but I can imagine that it would have been a hard sell. The fight was awful.
Ali had won 8 out of the first 12 rounds because Shavers strategy was to save himself for the last three rounds then go for the ko. Really was not a controversial decision. I watch this bout live as it happened and cheered Shavers all the way but he in no way won this bout.
The repeated use of "Ali Hater" to characterize anyone who even mildly criticizes Ali, proves the existence of a mindless Ali Cult. It's a smoking gun. Have you ever heard "Lewis Hater"?.. "Foreman Hater"?.."Corbett Hater"? No, and you never will. It's only when a false religion has taken root, that the Hater language starts to be used.
A champion should not get the benefit of the doubt in a close fight. If the champ didn't win enough rounds, then he shouldn't be the champ anymore.
Jimmy Young would have beaten George Foreman at any stage of his career, even if he had his own private air conditioner in his corner.
The version of Willie Pastrano that edged Harold Johnson for the lightheavyweight title in 1963 would have also beaten Bernard Hopkins.
